Skateboarding Spots

  • Ilfracombe built a tasty outdoor park sometime in the 80's, it consisted of four big concrete bowls and a concrete 1/4 pipe around the walls of the park. There was a hut renting out boards, even a view of the sea. For some reason this venture closed down, I don't know when. Me and me mate found it through undergrowth in about 1996, 'someone' cut the fence and within about 2 weeks there was a major scene. And I have have to give Ilfracombe council credit for their consistency, 'cos they found out and bulldozed it. And then wander why there's lots of heroin doing the rounds. Anyway, nearby Braunton has always welcomed the alternative pastimes and is in the process of building a badboy park, nearly finished. Leave Ilfracombe on the main road towards Barnstaple, don't turn off, after 9ish miles you're in Braunton, wind down window and ask for further directions. Done.
  • PLEASE, DO NOT SKATEBOARD ALONG THE WALL BY HOLLIES, IT IS DANGEROUS, THANK YOU.
  • The skate board park was replaced by a sewage treatment works!
  • by the Landmark theatre steps and chairs
  • outisde the landmark
  • If you asked the average wurzel what a skateboard is they'd think it was something you put fresh fish on.
  • pier
  • According to the guy in the swimming pool beside the park, the park is gone, absorbed into the crazy golf. Now, what does that tell you? No park for the locals - did they care anymore, they obviously cared about it once, enough to build their own concrete park. (This is not a dig at the locals, just a question) The new generation of skaters surely cannot all be of the street only/ flat land flip flop type. Skate everything, get more out of skating.
  • Cloverleaf bowl dug out by locals. Big side is most popular. Also a good bank. If you're in the area it's worth a visit, but don't expect it to be like Del Mar. Just shred and have fun. Jan 89: Linking bowls have been dug out _ 2 of them attached to cloverleaf. Banked freestyle area. Jan 91: all still there, but drainage holes blocked, which makes this a mainly summer place. Talk throughout 92 of it re-opening. But now news yet.

Skateboard Shops

  • Woolacombe is good, Braunton is great, Croyde is small but it's not about the size, Barnstaple is ok if you look for it. Ilfracombe doesn't have any as all the skaters turned to Heroin when the council binned their skatepark.
  • theres a surf shop opposite maddys!
  • Highfield Road, and mainly Paul's in St James Place
  • down the front, outised the land mark
  • The Toy Cupboard Hollies

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Ilfracombe. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Ilfracombe.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
