Cringing Cult of Celebrity (Famous residents and ex-residents.)

  • Jersey has had it's fair share of celebs gracing its shores and really theres too many to mention that come over. The list of residents is pretty good aswell. Johnny Depp (thats right, mr.capt ack sparrow himself) is supposed to own one of the private islands that coast off Jersey. Nigel Mansel the famous driver lives on one of the bays. John Nettles (Bergerac) did live here for a time but the States refused to give him housing rights (which you have to earn by living here 15years) so he couldn't buy a house, so he moved after his tenancy was up. Graham Le Saux the chelsea footballer, Ian Woosnam the golfer and Narina Pallot the singer. And a few millionaires who aren't really worth mentioning.

Nigel Benn (Boxer) owns a flat round the corner near La Rocque (in that exclusive Gilbert O'Sullivan (70's singer songwriter) lives somewhere in St Peters. Led Zeppelin lived here for 3 or so months during 1975 whilst Robert Plant recovered from a car crash. They also played a gig at West Park Pavillion (now gone, but more recently known as the In On the Park) and used to 'socialise' regularly in what was 'Thackereys' on the seafront (more recently known as the Buzz Bar..and now even MORE recently demolished!).

Buskers, Street Entertainers

  • Now here is where St.Helier makes a name for itself. We have what some people might politely refer to as a loony, but who we fondly call our resident crazy bicyle lady. Sometimes called Joyful Joyce, sometimes called as crazy Vera (no one knows why she has two names-rumour has it she tried to shoot JFK and had to change her name to go undercover). Either way, if you see her, stay out of her way. She is prone to violent (hilarious) outbursts at random intervals and doesn't distinguish between people (she's very equal rights, is vera). She shouts out odd, unrelated things such as 'You read my f***ing poems you dirty toerag!' and 'I killed your dog'. She's delightful and can often be found cycling around town on a pink bike. A pleasure to behold. Jersey laws are quite strict on street entertainers however, but occassionally the JAC will organize a street event from time-time.
  • the lettice man is quite entertaining
  • Everyone is the same it might have something to do with the fact there all related to each other about 5 times
  • There was a crazy lady shouting the bible a while back, havent seen here in a while though, beware!!!!!!
  • Busking is allowed in Jersey but a licence is needed wich can be obtained by an audition at the arts centre. Buskers are found mainly in the summer but are allowed to busk all year. In the summer the Jersey arts centre organises lots of very interesting and amusing street entertainment.
  • nope, due to the states being all fat ignorant fashist b*****ds we dont have any...
  • On a Sunday afternoon, you get lots of drunks weaving over the pavement. Well I think it's entertaining.
  • Usually only in the summer and at Xmas (when shops are open at night) ..

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Jersey Saint Helier. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Jersey Saint Helier.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
