Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars

  • Destinys is the best night ive had out in plymouth and heros dance accademy is a place for druggies and pill poping morons who want to get a life
  • rock nights at the cooperage on saturdays with three rooms for oldies and youngies
  • Wherever U.F.O. are holding there nights(in the Hub AFAIK ATM). Also Flava. And there is a decent techno night; "oorpi" that do events in the Warehouse on Union St (not the old warehouse/Flicks on the corner that hosted Waspfactory/Alpha Spacelines etc events), the new one furthur down on the left
  • the mez bar? where is it?!
  • scoller!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • The Phoenix has a wide range of bands playing, from emo to ska to metal to jazz.
  • the sooner they nock the student union down the better it has the atmospear of a public toilet and the piss and puke to match 103s is a dump
  • Psycadelic Techno @ Tramps, bretonside bus station
  • c103s is really cool, has special nights like Friday is Rock night where they play pretty ehavy stuff. There are 3 rooms, a dance room, the main cheese room and the smaller room, usually used for rock. Destiny's is a bit cheesy but its ok once in a while. Walkabout isnt too great, there is broken glass all over the floor and the music is a bit repetitive. Bars - Wetherspoons on Mutley Plain is great, does nice cocktail jugs. Heroes is very classy too, and right next to destiny's so you can drink in peace and then go partaaaaay without having to queue at the bar in Destiny's for half an hour. A good place to see live music is actually the Student Union! Its a bit sweaty in there though.
  • Right my little beatys. Oz and Blondz were millenium, but went bust and out of business apparently. Destinys does not have top djs at all. Its cheesy as c103, but the girls arent bad. Typical plymouth, too many blokes, not enough up for it ladies, C103 is basically the midnight phantom youth club, alays has been, always will be. Harry tates, full of puppies and chavs but your guarenteed to take a girl home with you, and probably a couple of unwanted nasties too. Know what I mean. Keep it real plymouth, power to the people.
  • Dance Academy=pills/fun, C103=students/possible shag, Candy Store=bling/more bling, Destinies=bad music/good fun
  • The Warehouse on a Saturday, C103 on Friday both pretty good rock nights next to each other on union street
  • most of the clubs are closed down now because Destiny put them out of business but theres still plenty of bars around
  • C103: Formerly 'JFK's'. Definitely an alternative joint, with a Rock Night on Fridays. You feel outcast for looking normal, in this place. Less trouble, though.
  • Friday nights c103 union st Rock night if anyone is intrested
  • Candy Store is a banging club at the western end of union street away from the fighting drunks of the all inclusive bars and clubs but in the chilled mellow drugs culture area of clubs, hardly any trouble.
  • Destiny's is supposed to be good, Dance Academy is definitely BANGING.
  • Formerly JFK's but now C103. JFK's used to be the place that under 18's would go. it was like the only club you were likely to get in to when you first started drinking. also a good place for older guys to pick up younger chicks. Now under new management its a bit shitter. the tenner all enclusive nites of summer 2003 were great fun.
  • Caffeine Club is no more!! BOO HOO!!
  • its dance academy in plymouth thats got the drug pushers not millenium
  • most of the clubs are all centred on union street which means all the 'swillyites'-(local word for yobbos) go there. for a more mature night out without all the hassle go to destiny's/heroes in Cattedown. or if studenty nightss out are more your cup of tea, mutley plain is the place for you, althouh it is full of bars, not clubs
  • although its sad to say jfks...iv been going there since i was ** and now 4 yrs on and 19 yrs of age im stil a regular attender only as plymouth lacks a decent club for all us punk fans!!! i must say tho they r doing alot to change their image...its now c103 and they ask everyone on the dorr for id....altho most ppl nowadays hav fake ones so the younger looking ones stil get in!!! its also a bargain at £7 all inclusive for women only!!!!! BARGAIN!!! destinys is also real wicked on a monday and thursday as its so cheap!! Jelly jazz has now moved to the DEEP bar...so classy and a wicked nite...theres a noodle bar inside th club and its not that expensive...its really modern and clean...which is always good!!! Quay club on a thursday is good but needs to have air conditioning as it gets too hot. millenium-just dont go there unless u like the smell of fish, cheese and alcohol merged togeva and ur feet either sticking to the floor or dodging glass on the dancefloor.ur also guaranteed to hav at least one drink to be spilt on you and end up in the middle of a fight. Final place gud enuf to mention is busstop...bit skanky but wicked drum and bass nites legends also is gud...last friday of each month at dance academy...but be warned its full of pill poppers.....
  • The clubs in plymouth are great! There are usually two or three murders a year in and around them. The police use videos of the brutal street fighting on Union Street as training videos. However more recently the Warner Village (Destiny and Heroes) are safe and pleasant places to go which attract a fairly friendly crowd. Also the nighttime scene on the barbican is getting much better.
  • Dance Academy!
  • THE DANCE ACADEMY! U CANNOT BEAT IT! BEST TIMES OF MY LIFE IN THERE, FANTASTIC VENUE,AMAZING PEOPLE, AND THE CHOOOONS!
  • Destinys = yes. Quay club = no.
  • the cooperidge club on barbican
  • Don't do clubs. I've heard Union Street is pretty good! But, I've never been there.
  • JFK's (Just For Kids) I also went to SPACE the other day which woz good (haha the blokes had to pay!) and also Candystore and Millenium ( all on Union Street 4 anyone who dont know)
  • JFK's is the easiest to get into.
  • JFKS DESTINYS E.T.C
  • Plymouthian clubs are NOT full of beautiful women...most are either 40-year-old scary looking slappers or young tarts on the lookout for sailors!
  • Destiny Nightclub on the Barbican leisure park is fuckin tops, class dj's , class chics & lads and best of all NO TROUBLE!!! If your coming to plymouth it is the place to go. STAY STRONG!!
  • destiny, millenium and candy store are good, They play all types of music. I advise a trip to union street...some of the best clubs around are down there.
  • Is the Ritzy still going? I remember having the time of my life there when it first opened during the school nights (no alcohol and specifically under 16s)
  • JFK's
  • Anyone remember the Ritzy nightclub. REMARKABLY young patrons wasn't the words to describe it. BARELY LEGAL should do though.
  • The Cove on the Barbican has some cool club nights during the week and its got a WICKED beer garden
  • What the hell did they do to Oz?? It was one of my favourite ever clubs. Millenium is a load of poo by comparison.
  • Ritzy (in whatever incarnation it is now) is always good for cheap booze, and the same playlist year in year out.
  • jfk's - dodgy and Just-For-Kids
  • JFK's (also known as Just For Kids)
  • Millennium is the place, its the biggest club ive ever been to and the djs are top quality, and the nicest women britain has ever seen. But if ur into punk shit u wanna go to Jfks and if ur a sad bloke who thinks hes hard just go to the Venue and act like ten men all night.
  • Destinys, a fuckin class club to go to..and it aint full of drugpushers either..unlike some clubs..no names mentioned(MILLENNIUM COMPLEX)!!!!
  • JFK or tramps.....only punky places!
  • harbour lights, fore street torpoint, across the river
  • Quay Club - great atmosphere, good music, give it a go!
  • Oz has closed down.
  • The Acadamy, newley refurbished and kicking. Hard house and loads of friendly people :)
  • Jelly Jazz @ the Quay club (the barbican) - Quality bunch of jazzy tunes on every wednesday. Great atmosphere and lovely people.
  • The Cooperage "Planet Rock" strictly for the BBoys...old school hip hip, original breaks, electro funk and other classic block party jams, Also "Flava" has moved to the Cooperage...
  • Plus lots more in Union Street
  • Club Oz, Sound Factory, also popular Dance clubs (Friday and Saturday)
  • JFK's for all you student grunge types (Friday and Saturday)
  • Studio every month RAPTOSOUL (local R'n B DJs)... Friday Nights.
  • Studio every month FLAVA (Tall paul and Flava crew) Hip Hop... a lot of good guest DJs played such as Cuttmaster Swift, DJ Noise (world DMC champ) plus loads more... (Friday Nights)
  • Sound Factory (Tall Paul, local Djs etc.)
  • Warehouse/Oz (Paul Okenfold, Sasha etc.)

Live Music Venues

  • the junction, the cooperage, phoenix
  • The Hub in Bath Street (behind the Pavilions). Quite a new Live Music Venue, but by far the best. The Cooperage, Junction, or Pheonix aren't in the same league. All the best unsigned bands play the Hub, and the best of local talent play there too.
  • The Phoenix. Once again.
  • The Junction, Mutley Plain
  • Pavillions! They ahve the big bands like Greenday coming.
  • If you like good music (you know who you are) then the Quey Club monday/wednesday. Jazz cafe also good (guess what type of music).
  • The Phoenix if you want decent local bands or the Pavillions get some good bands like Machine Head and Greenday.
  • Pavillions and the Bus stop cafe are the only real venues
  • open mike night tuesdays at voodoo lounge
  • Cooperage for classic Ska (Bad Manners, Selecter, Desmond Dekker, Too Hot). Pavillions for names (Travis, Manics, Motorhead). Dance Academy used to be just plain 'Academy', and hosted loads of Indie bands in the 80s. (Alien Sex Fiend to The Wedding Present).
  • FreakJam Open-Mike Nite every Monday 9pm-2am @ The Good Companions (www.goodiesplymouth.co.uk)
  • Plymouth Pavilions is the biggest venue for bands.
  • Tramps in the bus station... yeah, so what? But this is THE place for punk gigs in Plymouth.
  • meatloaf played in plymouth just a few weeks ago! the pavillians is the nearest plymouth has to a music arena.
  • Cooperage is the best most wickedest place eva far better than any other live venue in plymouth and since its been done up its even better...had my 18th bday in there...best nite of my life! apart from that bands like hundred reasons, bowling for soup, spunge and lost prophets have played there...and garbage (well b4 they were famous!!) loads of tribute bands play there as well...if ur after a good nite out with live music and a friendly atmosphere this is the place to go.
  • Joey the Lips at The Bank pub on royal parade. Regular slot!
  • Thistle Park Tavern, Sutton Road
  • Kings head behind the old bus station. Great for ageing Janners!
  • Pavillions
  • same as above
  • Pavillions are quite good, have seen some good concerts.
  • Plymouth Pavillions
  • Urr, plymouth lacks in that area. Pavillions??!!
  • the cooperage on the barbican has many good bands playing there-hundred reasons were there a coupla months ago
  • Tramps, INSIDE the bus station!
  • PAVILLIONS
  • the cooperage. Loads of great bands are shown down there eg spunge.
  • cooperage
  • pavillions is the only one!!
  • Tramps and cooperage....live ska and punk!
  • the cooperage, the barbican
  • Aah, the demise of the Cooperage as it was. No more EasyNights no more of anything as it was. Who knows, with the change of owner it may eventually get back to its former glory. Respect to Dot for getting it to where it was.
  • COOPERAGE (PLANET ROCK /FLAVA)
  • The Pavillion
  • The Cooperage, amazing Venue for live bands, jungle nights... the best live venue.

Cinemas

  • warner
  • Warner Village is really really nice much better than my home city (Leicester) its big, its clean and its comfortable. Not much more to say.
  • Plymouth Arts centre do the best selection of films in Plymouth
  • vue cinemaq on the barbican used to be warner village, tis a fine place
  • The Warner Bros. Cinema complex was absolutely brilliant, however it was recently taken over by VUE cinemas, and is just as good!....however, there are no more overly-large cartoon character models which use to be around the place :(...still, great for films though! :)
  • Vue (formerly 'Warner Bros'). Expensive, but impressive. Food and drink costs a ridiculous amount, however.
  • Warner village on the Barbiacan
  • Vue (formerly Warner Village): Overly priced, but good. Student discounts available.
  • Warner Village gets people in off the moors! (15 miles!)
  • Plymouth Arts Centre for unusual films.
  • warner village and the ABC...so shocked it aint gone bust!!! £3.50 a film and u sit in something that replicate sthe size of ur frontroom on the most basic seats eva...gud if ya on a budget...also no one eva really goes there so 9 times out of ten u have the whole cinema to urself.
  • Warner Village is pretty good, air con and millions of screens. Just below £6 a ticket though! (for an adult)
  • Warnver village, its huge and really good value!
  • Warner Village cinema is great, but use the upstairs toilets not the downstairs ones. Also service can be very slow for food at times, so arrive early if you have to have your hotdog. They do seem to run out of hotdogs a lot, and sometimes salted popcorn as well (blashpemy!) The Arts Centre is not a great movie house, but is good enough, and shows some brilliant movies which couldn't get mainstream distributers (i.e. ArtHouse movies). It's also cheaper than the Warner Village, and has a vegetarian restaurant above it.
  • warner village catdown
  • Warner Village complex (bowling, cinema, destinys nightclub and MacD)
  • Big complex on the barbican, with warner village, bowling, destinys night club, maccy d's.
  • now that the warner village cinemas opened most people forget about the abc, but its great to look at the cheesy decor, and you get to breathe the same air as the beatles - they played there many eons ago
  • Plymouth Arts Centre, shows all the films the multiplex can't handle i.e.:subtitles, intricate plot, etc.
  • The warner bros cinema is great, iIt's pretty new an its huge. Its the best around! For bowling and quasar, take a trip to Mega bowl.
  • Cinemas here are so much cheaper than the ones in London. It does make a difference guys.
  • Warner Village(coxside)
  • the warner villag has enough screens to suit all your needs, and there is the Plymouth arts centre if you want to sit in a room the size of your living room and feel smugly superior to those who and watch Hollywood blockbusters
  • warner village is amounst best in britain
  • Warner Brothers Complex. Very entertaining!
  • the new warner village is quality, wit 15 massive screens and in a great comlex wit destiny's night club mcdonalds, bowling complex and pizza hut, not to mention two pubs, what else do u want.
  • Superbowl..or Megabowl as its now called..is shite! Theres now a ban on under 18's!!bastards!!!!!
  • Warner village, clare place, coxside, Its huge, high tech and "rad"
  • ABC - Three Screens, Odeon - 5 Screens, Arts Centre Superbowl at Plympton, 16 Lanes, Quasar, American Pool Etc.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Plymouth. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Plymouth.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
