Clothes Shops, Shoe Shops, Fashion and Bargains

  • Seventwenty is loaded full of skate and bmx gear, as well as all the snowboard specific stuff, like boots etc
  • flatspot skate park, coxside
  • Oasis (fairly new, Plymouth is getting there!), Warehouse, both downstairs in Debenhams.
  • Retro Clothing: second hand retro clothes very popular. FlatSpot, Urban collective, Surfing life, Cody-Jon Saberton and more.

Arts, crafts and such (Anything from pukka art galleries to craft shops. Trendy and twee both welcome.)

  • Have a look at what the art college is displaying in it's gallery by the cop shop, Charles Cross.
  • There are numerous art galleries on The Barbican, the small ones are great, and the main gellery on North Hill is good too. Any gallery is a good gallery but avoid Plymouth Prints coz Chris Robinson is mean
  • Literally right next to halls of residence is the city museum which is quite cool... well, as cool as a museum can be! There's an aquarium too for the fish-lovers (?!) AT christmas in the centre of town they have a big craft market. But its extremely expensive.
  • Soul life in Plymouth has prints and books from Banksy and other street artists such as Mark Jenkins and NY collective Faile. Flatspot has got some work by Toby Ray which is also cool. The Arts centre has some strange stuff but the Arts museum in town is rubbish for a city this size
  • check out the coolest shop in Plymouth! Just Lee's The House That Jack Built The Barbican Plymouth Baroque, Celtic, Gothic, Medevil Gifts, & More Really cool stuff
  • Stone Soup - Storytelling (www.freedomarts.org.uk/soup). Regular event on the Last Wednesday of each month @ the Art Garden Cafe, The Barbican
  • Plymouth Arts Centre has a an unusual gallery otherwise Plymouth Museum is always putting on different art shows showing more traditional art such as paintings from the Newlyn School.
  • The Barbican is best for art galleries
  • Plymouth Arts Centre is the home of the Language Club, a lively poetry group with some poets of national "small press" standing as members. They do open mics and get guest poets down as well.
  • The Arts Centre in Looe Street is fab!
  • Plymouth Arts Centre, hidden away opposite the Bus Station.
  • TRIBAL VOICE
  • Try the museum next to the libary, you'll find loads of interesting things there. In the armarda centre, there are a few art and craft shops.
  • barbican.
  • Plymouth is home of the Children of Kaos (aka Kaos Design) and they have helped many a budding artist to put together big canvasses for their portfolio. Many local artists have helped Kaos in things like Boonoonoos carnival and festivals in Devonand Cornwall. Big shout!
  • Check out the Barbican. Lots of cool stuff but lots of crap aswell. Lenkewicz's (spelt wrong, sorry Robert) art studio is well worth a visit. What a talented geez even if he is a bit strange!
  • City Museum art gallery. Plymouth Art Centre. Plus more on the Barbican.

Magazine and Comic Shops

  • Kathie's Comics is great - like something out of a Kevin Smith movie, frighteningly obsessive owners, as is expected in any self-respecting comic shop
  • purple haze
  • Mount Lyner Stores-top of Peters Park Lane,St. Budeaux. If they haven't got it they will order it.
  • Purple Haze
  • Kathy's Comics

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Plymouth. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Plymouth.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
