Food
do not get a take-away in rugby EVER! they are rank. even are maccyD's set new levels of rancidity
The Neptune is now the Town Fryer, but still good for a poke of chips.
pizza hut. the pizzas where you can put your own topping on is brilliant. i reccommend olives, and chillis.
I heard Salmons was done for having human semen in the mayonnaise, however they do kebabs with meat that can only be described as disconcertingly vague.
Town Fryer, great chips. Dunchurch fish and chips-great kebabs.
La Magherita has excellent Itallian food. La Caso Loco for Mexican. Yum Yum for Chinese take away. Walkabout for a kangeroo burger. Avoid Salmans like the plague or you may get the plague. People only go there when they're drunk and think the only reason they feel bad the next day is because they were drunk, but that's not the case. Buddy's is much better, and safer.
Jasmine Court in Hillmorton is an excellent chinese, easily beats Mr C, and Ive eaten in Beijing too!
Just got a very swanky new restaurant called Ask. It has a good atmosphere and is candle lit. Very romantic
MACDONALDS!!
the imperial for chianese and maharajah for a curry spot on!
loadsa indians ! my personal favourite is the balti tandoori international restaurant (or somethign liek that), its purple
Anyone who knows anything about Chinese restaurants will realise that The Regent Restaurant is the finest in Rugby - and among the finest in the world... cripy beef is legendary
Your correspondent on Mr Chan's must be mistaken... Mr Chan's pales into insignificance compared with the delights of The Regent. Not so poncey, but the food is miles better.
there is macdonalds, pizza hut, dominoes, and my personal favourite hillmorton fish and chippy! does the best chips and curry ever
Buddies is run by the most disgusting group of men who really should watch there step because sometimes bad things happen.
If you like curry try the Tittash in church St, good choice freindly staff and
air con
Buddys do the best burgers. We have the usual McDonalds, Pizza Hut and KFC. Many many Chinese restaurants the best probably being Yum Yum.
Loads of really good Indians e.g. Maharajah, Dilruba on Albert St Mr Chan's now renamed but still good. La Casa Loco Mexican Hundreds of pubs
Salman's kebab shop is, with one possible exception, the best in the world. Try the "under-the-counter" chilli sauce with your mixed kebab, double chips & mayo.
Mr Chans' Cantonese restaurant is now called The Imperial.
Indian, Chinese, Cantonese, Mexican, Greek, and a lot of pub meals.
Rugby has an excellent Chinese restaurant - Mr Chan's, located in Castle Street. I have only eaten in one Chinese better than this, and that was in Beijing. Lots of good Chinese takeaways too - best is the Wing Wah in Blackwood Avenue, followed closely by Ocean City in Cymbeline Way.
McDonalds, KFC and some great Indian restaurants: the Spicy Cottage is one.
Pubs
All toss. Serve beer. Open 'til 11.00pm. I'm not tellin' you where we go drinking...you've got to find it.
All praise the almighty J.D. Wetherspoons!!! Cheap beer!!! No kappas!!
Other pubs worth a look include Ye Olde Courthouse, O'Neills and Chumleys
As far as just saying NO! is concerned, I'd like to say that that was a thing that happened previous to my buying the tenancy. Several persons are now barred from the premises as a result, and the pub has been cleaned up in several ways. Why not pay a visit?
Reads bar in Henry st has now closed down, will be opening as a theme bar very soon. Rumore has it its going to be a russian vodka bar, with door men from the KGB. Also weatherspoons have got the go ahead to convert the old indoor market into an ale house, cheap beer at last.
Real Ale drinkers
Now Squirrel has been taken over by Green King the best Peddy pubs are :-
Alexandra Arms (cheap aswell at £1.70)
Raglan Arms
London House
Royal Oak, Dunchurch Road
Prince Of Wales
Don't try Fitchew & Firkin - Pedigree usually poor and its expensive!
Others do sell Peddy, look for Banks's pubs as they now owne Marstons
Reads bar in henry St is a good place for a sit down they have sofas and proper
tables and chairs, also some good local bands on thursday nights, also check out
the art work on the way to the toilets. BRILLIANT.
Just to let you know of a few change around the town, the Sacacens Head is now (and has been for a few years) called 'Ye Olde Courthouse' and is one a the places to be seen for students returning from Uni and The Waricks has now been done up and renames 'Le Pub', yes really, I'm not joking (not one of the best places in the town)but,Chumley's is the place to go, you can chill out during the day and have a crazy one at night.
mr q's - dont bother unless your under 16 and have a kid,
court house - mainly full of students and wannabe students,
crown - good place, but to small and packed,
fitchew and firkin - grungy/gothic students and adults
bank street - heard its for people bating for the other side
reeds - alright but sometimes quiet, good place for a few drinks with the misses
pig and truffle - full of college students
warwicks - quiet'ish on saturday night,
just pub, dont club...remember just say NO!
Loads, popular ones include the Merry Minstrel and the Fitchew and Firken. However these have more loud music. If you step out of town you get the quieter pubs.
visit the firkin for an alternative, friendly atmosphere!
O'Neils - Full of blokes, but the odd bird thats up for it !!
The Duck (Black Swan), The Fitchew and Firkin, The Vic and hundreds more
The Black Swan used to be a good pub for beer, but is now a kiddie venue complete with an ape guarding the door on a saturday night. The long list of real ales is still up on the wall behind the bar, the difference now is that most of them are "off" and whatever is on tastes foul
The Old Court House, Formally Saracen's Head is a great place on the Weekend. Very lively.
Avoid the lot in the town centre, go to the Barley Mow at Newbold.
Rugby used to be in the Guiness book of records for the most pubs in a square mile. More pubs than you could shake a reasonably sized stick at.
People always meet in the Crown because it's right next to where the buses and taxis stop, but it's always so packed it takes you half an hour to get in!
The Crown (though very loud), the Fitchew and Firkin, the Pig and Truffle, the Warwicks and the Saracen's Head
Cafes and Coffee Shops
tom browns is cool as nuts. top ice-creams on a summers day. smells of piss occasionally.
Somersault, at the south end of Little Church Street, just past Woolies, is a nice retreat. Scruffy furniture and eclectic decor, and wonderful cakes.
BB's, apart from the cigarette smoke (although its meant to be no smoking in the precinct) surrounding you when you drink/eat, the coffees are great, and the blueberry muffins to die for.
Rendevouz, nice cappucino they have in theres.
Hatty's do the best hot chocolate (with maltesers) for £1.25
Theres a vegan cafe, very expensive, very small, often packed, food very filling. dunno what its called. Looks like a shop, sells things too. can't miss it.
Bar Med serves good food in the day. Cafe Uno is good. Sommersaults is amazing - love it.
Hatty's for the best hot chocolate. Is a bit full of Rugby School Student though. we're convinced they're either breeding them in there or they've got some sort of underground tunnel system from the halls to Hatty's. Still, can't fault the HC so... no complaints.
Hatties, little cafe type thing, great place. loads of hats on the wall... How quaint.
MACDONALDS!!!
take your pick there is loads of cafes in rugby in fact too many! there is cafe uno, rendezvous, sommersaults, brooks, and a few dozen mingin ones scattered about
The flying tea-pot with Mr Edward's milkshakes with a little funny after-taste
and a funny 'mong' there after. The art work by Mr Ugly -Opiate state of Art-
good chap
Summersault, top of Sheep Street for coffee wot kicks. PLEASE REMEMBER...caffeine is a drug too.
Brookes are very nice; although Mixed spice (near the Market) are better value for money.
chummleys - good place to hang out , but can be quite during the day times.
Summersault in the High Street (right at the top,
past Woolworths). Sullen service, but absolutely
stunning vegetarian food, some of the best and
most imaginative I've had (cost a fiver with drink)
served in tables scattered amid the craft/"ethnic"
shop stock. There's more of a proper cafe room
hidden away at the back. Tables out front too.
Great place, a mix of grannies, sixth-form girls
and "wooly jumper" types, reminds me of the
cool cafe in Malvern.
Brookes is good for a coffee, as is Somersault. Tesco and Sainsburys coffee shops are cool too.
