• ROCK THE QASBAH........not quite, Penrith is mainly downmarket, and charity shops abound
• There is Burtons for the affluent yuppie. They do some cool clothes, and also some of this new 'new -but -scruffy' shite. For the women theres Glad Rags, never been in :| and other places. There's also 'Lucky Monkeys', but you wont feel lucky as you descend into their basement shop to discover their entire range is a £400 tie-die T shirt hanging in a tiny room reeking of incsence.

• gladrags is the only half-decent place to get clothes from, everywhere else either charges too much or sells u things that fall apart in under an hour from wearing it.

'PATCHED' tweed jackets are optional seasonal wear. If you'e not local, it would be BEST to SMUGGLE some 'labels' in, just DON'T get caught wearing them as the local Barley-moe checked shirt brigade will linch you, tying you up to the nearest tree and start shouting WITCH!! WITCH!! at the slightest sight of an electronic lighter or electrical device for taking 'moving pictures'.

• Don't come to Penrith for clothes shopping unless you want to look the same as everyone else - there is only a Dorothy Perkins, Benneton and a couple of crappy cheap shops that sell rubbish clothes for girls!
• Dorothy perkins is the only shop that sells skirts above the knee and that aren't all in floral print! oh theres glad rags its ok if your just planning to wear the outfit once as it will fall straight to bits, so watch those dance steps girls.

• Lucky Monkeys down from The Wolfe can be said to be "A Proper Cumbrian Clothes Shop".Higgins can be found in here as can James Holland when he's after a new outfit.Stone Island will soon be available here - well around 2010.
• Sisley is the only decent one. There is a little tatty-tarty shop but I try to avoid it!
• Oxfam has to be the place. "Suits you sir". We all like to follow the fashions set by the old age pensioners in Penrith. Emma Graham doesn't know what a clothes shop looks like so don't bother asking her were to go. If you do see her don't get to close you might stick to her clothes, keep to a safe distance of at least 5 miles.

• If you venture to the Rheged centre, hoping to learn something about Cumbria then you'll discover it's a sparsely filled shopping mall. You can buy many of the countys 'crafts' here. I as a resident am filled with rage as these crafts give tourists the misconception everyone here wears clogs and jumpers.
• Actually there's quite a few of these due to all the rich twats who buy our houses and inhabit them for approximately two days per year, hereby preventing those of us who actually live and work here from moving to our own pad, or improving our current one.

• Any shop in Penrith sells sheep shite (plentiful supply) on a bit of wood and charges a tenner for it. You know what? People actually buy this stuff.
• If you enjoy collecting badly made, sentimental tat then Penrith is the place for you! Anyone can be a "Rural Craftsman"-all you need to do is stick some pieces of slate together and HEY PRESTO! An attractive yet expensive lakeland ornament.
• a couple of craft shops. you'd be better off going to anywhere else for art except the UCC art dep't. its full of great art, all by Pete Johnson and his posse
• There's actually quite a lot of 'such' in Penrith. And it sticks to your clothes like a bastard on heat. (See "Bike shops")

• Loads of Art and Craft shops around the town - from the Devonshire Arcade to St Andrews Church.

Magazine and Comic Shops

• High Street Collectibles (heaps good), or Supanews newsagents, they're decent.

• Try WHSmiths, I'm actually quite impressed by their range of mags, including some of the less orthodox ones. For 18+ action you could try a newsagent's- it's well known that Penrith newsagents, although prudent, stock huge amounts of greasy smut!

• Great selectiobn of dirty mags in newsagent on Kingstreet, thus atteracts lots of schoolboys, but remember, 'only three school children in at a time'
• For ten points try and buy a porno from King street news-If the old woman behind the counter doesn't 'tut' loudly then you have my respect.

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
