Food
Bideford just like every other Devon & Cornish town has its fair share of PASTY makers, but what makes BIDEFORD stand out is the fact that the Pasties made in a certain little shop are hand made by a family from Leicester,
Next time you are passing through, stop off at BLACKWELLS PASTIES
at the bottom of Meddon street.
The Tavern In The Port where good food costs less
Bideford is also known as "china town" due to the abonormally large amount of Chinease take-aways
Ali's Charcoal Grill- severs the finest kebab that can be purchased in the Western World.
Try chicoland on the quay, nice creamy mayo!!
If you want the best Cornish pasties around then you can get them at Blackwells. Best eaten as you exit the shop, but they are regularly exported to an ex Bidefordian now residing in Balsham,Cambridge.
What about that top place Pizza Pronto at the end of Mill Street, just up from the Seasons, or the Chinese takeaway on the Quay which isn't so bad according to my sister.
Bideford has a lack of 'fast food' places with a Wimpy on the quayside, but there are plenty of pubs where you can eat and drink. The majority of these places are along the quayside which is really the centre of the town.
Pubs
The good thing bout the pubs in Bideford is that there sooo close together! This makes for easy stumbling from one to another. Top route to take: Start @ the tavern, then kings arms, then no 1 then heavertree, then Dj's, then Taquila Jacks (formaly Custom House) then on to Route 66 (AKA the all seasons) finally u then have a choice of Stallones, Cheezers or the unmentionable Asylym (Ivory Club or Cleos what ever u want 2 call it!) lastly if ur still standing head off for a burger from the only 2am impy ever!! ENJOY!
The Talbot Inn, or Number 1 to the locals, is a great place Friday and Saturday nights especially if you like ABBA.Drinks usually cheaper than other pubs.
On the corner of No1 High St and The Quay you will find the Tomestone where deals were struck on market day.Tomestones were known as "nails" hence the expression "pay on the nail".
A few psychos may occupy The No1 at other times and chances are you will see the Landladys boyfriend "Cookie" propping up the far end of the bar !
The Westleigh Inn at Westleigh is one of the best village pubs around. Friendly with good pub food
The Tavern in The Port, beer starts at just £1.10 pint, spirits £1.20 double, bottled beer £1.00. Entertainment on Sundays, the best place in Bideford, probably! Visit our website http://www.soft.net.uk/port
They're all dangerous if you don't have a dumbo hick accent !! I used to get threatened every night I went out there.
The White Hart on the narrow street behindthe Spar. Tiny and very friendly. I only go in about once a year, and the always remember me!
The Portobello anf The Joiner's Arms both do lockins!
Unfortunately the Seasons has now closed.
The Farmers arms at Woolsery (woolfardisworthy) is worth checking out for a beer. It used to be my Local before I moved back upcountry. SKL
The King's Arms on the Quay, especially cool on New Year's Eve - fancy dress rules!!
Dj's sports bar
Custom House.
Tavern in the Port.
I'm confused why you've mentioned Sheepswash which is miles out in the sticks. Are you trying to be sarcastic? If you were mentioning Speepswash, you could have mentioned that popular TV presenter Noel Edmonds lives out there!
Don't forget the fabulous inn at nearby Sheepwash!
Cafes and Coffee Shops
The North Devon Crystal Centre and Tea Room- formerly a chapel just outside of Btown.
