Ted Lewis, author of 'Jack's Return Home' - which was later made into the Michael Caine classic 'Get Carter'- lived on Priestgate until his death.
the "real life" texas chain-saw massacre-ist robert elmer kleason resided down whitcross street before being busted. he's dead now thank christ but he a documentory about his life on channel 4 last year, thats right...barton was on the telly! also the actual film "the texas chainsaw massacre" was "allegadly" partly based on him.....!!!
len out of emmerdale lives in barrow does that count?
chad varah, i think he invented short hand or sumthing, and the guy that invented desperate dan for the dandy, also samuel wilderspin who was a famous victorian teacher who used to teach at the queen street school. and me.
Lawrence of Arabia stayed at the Vicarage-a freind of the Vicars.

The guy who draws Desparate Dan lives/lived in Barton.

There is a Bike Night in July where all the streets in the centre are closed off and bikers drop in on Barton in force. Good night, street fair and generally good atmosphere
Did you know. Uncle Freddy - the magical, juggling, fire-eating guy in a straight-jacket. Was born in Barton and lived on Ferriby Road until the age of nine when he and his family moved to Canada. www.magicfreddy.com
Barton Christmas Festival is at the end of November every tear. All of the streets close and a funfair comes to town. Really great atmosphere with street entertainers, craft stalls etc.
