Favourite Building

  • Harbour Lights, Don't do it Pete
  • 3 Church Street and The Tavern
  • 45 Cliff Street
  • The Harbour Lights

Demolish It Now Building

  • I'd like to see St Austell flattened.
  • Wit's End and the whole of St.Austell
  • gils garage
  • The Harbour Lights is about to be flattened, protest now to save this fine example of Cornish vernacular architecture. Its a great pub with some wonderful regulars

The Best Things

  • Watching tourists scrape their cars along the narrow streets
  • The ferry to Fowey - not that you'll want to leave Mevagissey - but if you've not been on this ferry you haven't lived! Better still if it's a little choppy ..
  • new years eve-seven pubs, late opening, youthful looking crowd as well as mum dad and grandparents not embarassing however because you can always keep moving to the next establishment. Fancy dress every where 11 twentysomethings dressed as polcewomen gggrreat.
  • New Years Eve-if you've been before you'll know why its so groovy!! Feast Week -Lots of crazy things happening in the space of a week. The Tug O War is always amusing, but bring back the greasy pole, its just not the same. Oh Yeah, lots of alcholol is consumed this week.
  • Loud Music At 3 o'clock in the morning
  • Spring time (warm and no emmets). The club = Cheap Alcohol
  • Lots of nice locals
  • blokes are cool, especially MAX + BEN
  • not the sea guls

The Worst Things

  • it's shit and it smells.
  • Bloody sea gulls at 5 am, Tourists who feed the gulls then wonder why they get attacked by them....ha ha ha ha
  • Driving through in a hurry trying to catch a train or get to work in July or August pedestrians not noticing that the high street is in fact a road! constant reversing because of the narrow streets. Mevagissey needs more pub gardens.
  • The winter, when Kelly's Arcade is shut and there's nothing to do. The song about Mevagissey that we were made to learn at school! (Altogether now...There's a lovely old Cornish town....) PLEASE MAKE IT STOP!!!
  • The Tavern pub still having Shakin Stevens on the juke box! It is supposed to be the year 2000 Henry!
  • Upset Neighbours
  • Seagull Poo, Emmets(Driving Mondeo Estates at 30MPH)
  • tourists
  • The seagulls: too many!!!!

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Mevagissey. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Mevagissey.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
