A great selection of restaurants and 5/6 inexpensive cafes in the twon
Gotta be Life's a Beach, expensive but easily worth it, but also the Bay View on the way to Widemouth has had a makeover and does some nice food for a good price.
KJs for a takeaway
Lifes a beach has probs the best food and definately the best views
Alantic diner for sunday morning fry up
I can't believe no one mentioned Atlantic Diner!! It's great. They have the biggest menu I've ever seen. Be warned that the portions are HUGE but the prices are VERY reasonable indeed!
A new resturant named 'Life's a Beach' has just recently opened (1999) and offers a great sea food menu, plus others mouth watering dishes. It's situated in the perfect position next to Summerleaze beach, over looking the sand and surf. Of an evening you can sit outside and admire the beauty of this town, while watching the sun go down and the waves roll in.
Ann's Corner House. The cheapest, greasiest, tastiest food, you'll ever eat. The chips are to kill for. And during the summer an Auntie Vi's goes down a treat.
More sociable than a beer & a chat, more exciting than a stompin' night out- try a STAVROS's kebab after a night at Widmouth Manor- possibly the only 'babs in britain that arn't road kill. OR, ask Simon at the Carriers for one of his famous Baked Spuds.....
Pubs
The Inn on the Green Hotel and Bar has been bought and refurbished by the former owner of Widemouth Manor, Mr Rick Perry, not only a handsome man but a charming one too! His Legends Bar is absolutely stunning, a quality mix of chrome, marble bar tops, leather upholstery and stunning decor. The food is excellent, with the new style theatre kitchen, (which basically means you can see what they're doing to your food!) you would be mad not to drop in to at least have a drink in the coolest bar in Bude. You will be guaranteed the warmest of welcomes.
The Carriers has a good atmosphere, great for sitting outside on summer evenings. The Inn On The Green is going to reopen soon so that could be interesting.
JJ's, Brendon...??
jj's bar next to carizma is the spot for mid week drinking in the winter but you still cant beat the carriers on weekends and in the summer!
Still no mention of the only decent REAL ALE pubs in the area. There is one in Widemouth Bay (between the Manor and Bude) called "Bay View Inn" and one in Stratton called "The Kings Arms" Neither are noisy bustling establishments so they make for a nice quiet change (you can even hear people talking!) Both have pool tables and all the usual ammeneties you would expect of "Locals" pubs and beleive me when I say they are the only places in the area I would buy a pint in!! Both are recommended in the "CAMRA" guide. "Bay View's" prices are more realistic. Real Ale lovers, look them out! Lager louts not your scene.
Carriers [main one for the social butterflies], Bencoolen, Crooklets, Falcon, Brendon, Globe
The Bullers Arms (excellent pool table)
The Crooklets Inn
The Brendon Arms
The Bencoolen
The Carriers Inn
Cafes and Coffee Shops
So many I don't know where to begin - Bude is full of them - from cafes overlooking both main beaches, to the back of shops, Wroes with views of the Breakwater and many more
lots of random corner shops and cofee houses but i only visit a few -
the american style Atlantic Diner (must try the ice cream sundaes)
bellini's (italian?) cafe
Scrummies bistro/cafe
scrummies does a top notch breakfast, can't recommend it enough, stayed nearby for a week and had breakfast there most days, really nice staff as well...
Atlantic diner do a lovely breakfast, best cure for any hangover.
Crooklets Beach Cafe
The coffe pot is the best place to grab yourselves a nice snack. There's friendly sevice and the chef's a master. Tables outside offer a chance to gain a tan while you eat and you can also check out the talent walk by in hteir skimpy numbers.
