The author Molly Parkin used to live here with that bloke who paints 3d raindows and all. Patrick something
Entertainer & Star from BBC's Bleak House & Doctor Who Spencer Hawken lives in Lelant.
Mentioned elsewhere, we got Rodga Harvey dwelling in St. ives. OG Harrow skater, stand-up guy, basically fed the skate scene out of his rad Piss Alley store back in the day. Rumour has it also that Michael Jackson lives in the little chapel on the Island.
Virginia Woolf and DH Lawrence
Talking about Tiny the wonder dog! I remember him as "Timmy" and saw him perform at a kids party in......1974? Is it the same dog??How on earth did it end up in the museum?
I can't believe there hasn't been a mention of Tiny the Wonder Dog, remarkable stuffed resident of the Museum in St Ives. (My sister and I are South African, and were alerted to Tiny's existence by other global travellers. We made a special visit just to see him.) You can't miss it!
Some of the most important painters this country has produced worked and/or lived in st.ives , e.g Peter Lanyon,Patrick Heron, Alfred Wallis etc.
Hundreds Barbera Hepworh ......
Buskers, Street Entertainers
Go in September when the festivals on and your spoilt for choice
Barney the window cleaner - likes his beer and has been known to take eighteen hours cleaning one set of pub windows; well, that's how long his ladder was propped up outside for !
Blind Lloyd plays organ by the Lifeboat Station. Some people used to chuck stones in his hat so it sounded like change. That's not nice. Give him some money instead. The most entertaining street activity is watching emmets fall over on the cobbles when it rains in summer. Probably more fun for locals though.
Donovan used to busk here in the 60's
harbour front-cant miss them-bands play occasionaly on stage outside the sloop
some1 called Lyndon plays the guitar and sings, he is good! and his friend nickson has got them big fire stick things which he sometimes plays with at night. theres also that big steel drum band.
There are quite a few, but all offer quality entertainment for free!- or a few pennies! Watch out for the percussion band that performs on the Harbour wall and outside the lifeboat house- they fob you off with the same songs for half and hour.
The always are some around town but we are lucky in that we do not have a problem.
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.
If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.
Have Your Say...
The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.
You can tell us more about St Ives.
This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here.
(But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)
You can use the add an event form
to tell us about events happening in St Ives.
Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
