Record Shops
Internet. Besides Solo in Truro, or Mordros for independent stuff, there's not a good record store in Cornwall, let alone St. Ives. This would be an untapped goldmine - someone open one before the kids buy up all Woolworths hardcore music selection and go mental.
Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars
We have one club - The Isobar
Isobar
The Hub on the harbour front is a pimp bar where the rich and famous hang out. Next to onshore. Plays funky house with the live house dj's on fri and sat nights. nice but expensive. Does almost every drink you can think of, with coctails as well.
The Isobar died Spring 2004 after the refurb. Wack. It's not a club, it's a deli counter. Security is akin to Camp X-Ray, and if it's not overrun/full to discomfort levels, then there's prolly more bouncers than punters. Bar staff are cool folks, but just go on a summer night, take your 'food counter'-style ticket to WAIT IN LINE for the dancefloor (no joke), and try and tell somebody you had a good time afterwards. It's not likely. Go to Bosun's (Penzance) on a live music night.
everyone has been to 02, formally known as the LEL and I reluctantly went one Friday in May 04' and it was a brilliant night out I must say, they had live PA's and they were giving away loadsa free CD's and T-shirts. It was sadly not a regular thing but I was really please to hear yesterday while at college the nights back this friday 17th September 04' and there is going to be even more free give-a-ways and more 'live' music. This really is a must its called URBAN EXPLOSION and its in association witb TRIZZACKZ mix CD's. I'm definately going and this is a brilliant night out guaranteed....not everything the LEL does is all bad my opnion has definately been changed it was packed out!
Pegotty's has closed down. The building is now sheltered accommodation
Isobar is the only club i think, it was £5 entry last summer an gets full bein the only club in the town, but its a cool club an gud nite out...lotsa fit fellas
Isobar is the main place to go in St Ives since Mr Peggotty's has been closed for about three years now. If the queue is too big and you fancy an alternative to dance music, try Harlequins after the pubs close. The Flamingo (formerly The Shire Horse) is closed at present but watch this space...
The Flamingo seems to be the only place. I've been there twice. First time total of 14 people, me and my four friends, two gay soldiers, a transvestite who pole danced all night and a gang of the most ugly men I've ever seen. Second time there were about 20, and I actually fell asleep in the corner. Watch out for the bouncers/male staff, they like to pick you up, especially Weird Simon, who is a staring freak!
The elbow room has had a complete change and is now called the ISOBAR, and the shirehorse has changed aswell and is now called the FLAMINGO
The elbow room is one of the hotest places in town to go along with Peggs or Mr Peggottys to people who are not aquainted with St.Ives.
Live Music Venues
The Lifeboat Inn for folk and jazz type stuff. The Western for the same.
The Lifeboat
Bosun's or 2K in Penzance. The Barn have had some names there in hip-hop terms. The Acorn Theatre draw some interesting stuff once in a while. Local bands rep Bosun's more, but it's funny to look back and realise that PZ/St. Ives area has played host to the likes of Rahzel, Wu-Tang, Million Dead, Lost Poets, yourcodenameis:milo, and the mighty SAXON (!) in recent times. St. Ives' September Fringe Festival is great for jazz and blues, and there is more of a scene for that in St. Ives than anything else.
There's regular live music - usually jazz or blues at the Lifeboat, the Golden Lion and the Western Hotel. Most sessions are free.
Not a music venue in the traditional sense but offering regular doses of Jazz,Blues and even Rock'n'Roll bands, the Harbour Pool Club on the Wharf is a great allrounder of a place. With fabulous views over the harbour,a warm homely feel and a bar that stays open all day.Even the more expensive temporary membership works out at less than 30p per day and all entertainments are included along with sky tv.,daily newspapers and some rather lovely barmaids!!
The Shirehorse venue just on the outskirts of town
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.
You can tell us more about St Ives.
This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here.
(But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)
You can use the add an event form
to tell us about events happening in St Ives.
