Food
Yam Parlour at the top of Causewayhead although evening opening seems to be a bit random. Not all that cheap (about £15 a head for two courses) but platefuls of lovely, imaginative veggie food. Oh, and you save money because you take your own wine.
Steal from any one of the Co ops
Seaview Fish and Chip Shop at the top of Adelaide Street is excellent as is Scott the owner!
Always good for a Laugh - The Meadery - Eat chicken with your hands get drunk on very strong local mead wine
The taj mahal small but fantastic
The Yam Parlour is a vegetarian restaurant at the top of Causeway head. Its small but cosy (although the chairs are slighty odd) The menus are very simple in the evening (2 starter, 2 main, 2 dessert, changes daily) and at lunch its other nice snacky stuff (can't remember what exactly). Renaissance, in the Wharfside, isn't too bad for pizza and pasta and Olivers in Chapel Street bottom of) is fine if you want it a bit fancy. Kublais Mongolian no longer exists.
New veggie cafe the Yam Parlour at the top of Causewayhead offers a continental atmosphere.
THE BEACH CAFE DOES NOT EXIST ANYMORE
LOADS OF KEBAB SHOPS, INDIANS, CHINESE, MEXICANS. ITS NOT LACKING IN THESE. OH YEAH
PASTY AND HOT BREAD SHOPS ARE GOOD AROUND HERE TO
The best seafood reestaurant is the Beach Cafe, downstairs from the Penzance Arts, at the bottom of Chapel Street. With sand on the floor and a net hammock in the corner, it is possible to forget all the howling wind and rain outside, and recall those hazy days of summer, as you enjoy the wonderfully prepared dishes. (Note: if you get in between 5.30pm and 8.30pm, you are charged only as much as the clock says, i.e. at 5.48, the cost is £5.48, at 6.15pm, it's £6.15, etc. Try and Beat the Clock!) (Extra note: this is not official advertising, i promise!)
? WHAT? Pz has the largest number of pubs in a square mile or something like that. You'll trip over 28 B4 you hit Newlyn!
regent is good so is weatherspoons although it has no music no pool tables
Any person under 25 should avoid The Turks Head or The Union in Chapel Street and find The Benbow or if not only young but totally lacking in taste The Regent also in Chapel Street.
The Tremenheere the new Wetherspoon pub has taken the town by storm. It's been absolutely packed all day every day. It's clean and the prices are exactly what everyone's been looking for. It's already had an efeect on the smaller local pubs in terms of competitive pricing. I was in the Benbow last Friday and they've cut their prices, which is a smart move. Having said that it was one of the quitest Fridays I can remember in there!
THE ROYAL STANDARD IS IN HAYLE NOT PENZANCE
The Dolphin down by the Harbour, best beer in town.
'Dock Inn' Quay Street is a beaut little old pub near the harbour with a pool table frequented by interesting characters & hosted by an even more interesting character of a landlord.
The Admiral Benbow. If you're looking for a pint, a punch or just an old-fashioned snog - come to the Benbow!
The Star - Main Street, Huprey Davey - Good music venue, about the only one actually.
the irish pub is nice and also cheap!
The Star - the closest PZ has to a fun pub The Longboat The Humphry Davy O'Flannigans Admiral Benbow
A strong point. Lots of pubs but the best one is 'The Royal Standard'. Good beer too!
Cafes and Coffee Shops
Aug 2005 - Archie Browns in Bread St is good for veggies/vegans as is Yam Parlour at the top of Causeway Head. There is no Market House Cafe any longer but plenty of other nice looking, half decent caffs have sprung up in Chapel Street and Causeway Head.
Blue snappa is slowly turning the place to be, just as popular as that place off friends.
The terrace in penzance high street is a cheap and friendly environment for a cafe.
The newest, and best, on the scene, is Coco's, where it is possible to drop in, fresh from all the antiques shops and galleries of Chapel Street, order your Cappucino, and watch the rest of the world hurry by through the enormous front window: goldfish bowl service at its very best.
The Terrace (Fabulous for wearing arty clothes and pretending to be cultred whilst gazing Parisian-style over your Cappucino at the main street).
The mega-cool Market House coffee shop (Small but has a cule clothes shop attached selling various floaty things)
