  • A mecca for plebisophorouses;Bank's bitter. The Plebs opera House, St Peter's church. The library and art Gallery( The Louvre of The Black Country) The betting shops and above all Beaties; a Wilfrunian attempt at rivaling Harrods but quite adequate for the needs of the average YamYam.

  • Wolverhampton Speedway at Monmore Green Stadium every Monday night from March to October

  • the way i moved away to bristol when i was 7 and every time i return (every couple of months due to family being there) i get goose bumps, theres nothing like the feeling you get when you return to your place of birth, i love the place, can't say exactly why but i do
  • the punk scence & punk people the skaters the concerts
  • The cheap beer in the Moon under Water. the cheap women in the Civic on a friday night, The Pork Joint, what a god send. All my old mates. The fact that it has not become a boom boom dance music area. Dave Cockfield, Peter Munslow, Martin Parkes, and all the girls ,
  • errrrmmmmmm......nothing really unless you like grey, miserable towns with a shit council, shit selection of clubs and wanky christmas lights.
  • COSTA, CASA, ROWFERS!
  • The people
  • Great, lively place to live, plenty of stuff to do nearby, and used to be the biggest town in Europe before it recently became a city!
  • Heroes, Neil Jackson, me & thats about it
  • some nice pussy in wolverhampton!
  • For someone who has not lived in Wolves since I was 6, I still love the place everytime I go back. It has a nostalgic charm, you can tell it has seen better times, but it is always trying to improve. The fact that it is quite multi cultural is a plus for the town. The row boats at West Park are cool, even if the Pond is half deep in bird shit.
  • The way massive fights erupt out side atlantis (opposite police station) and you never see any coppers come out to sort it.
  • People who give a damn about being themselves finding a place to meet up
  • It's so much better than people think. There's a fantastic mix of people and a real sense at the moment that things are on the up. We're a brand new city, there's a kicking nightlife, the uni gets stronger, our newspaper is the biggest selling local paper in the country.
  • The people need I say more !!
  • The parks outside the main centre (Bantock, or Tettenhall).
  • The racecourse.
  • home
  • What-you-see-is-what-you-get. I worked in London for a while, and I always felt relieved when I returned home, away from the pretencious wannabees, and the overpriced piss-water I had to drink. In Wolves, people are pretty straightforward and generally laid-back. The town centre is buzzing at the weekend, and has come on miles in recent years. You don't have far to walk to the next bar.
  • The best thing about wolverampton?(That is how to say it) - Banks's bitter. If you drink enough then life in the town begins to feel bearable
  • Banks's Mild. And its price. And the fact you can drink it until it comes out of your pores and still not have a hangover the next morning.
  • Well sign posted to get OUT!
  • Seriously good looking women out on the town on at the weekend, plenty of nightlife and good Indian restaurants.
  • Wolverhampton has got a high percentage of freaks so anything goes!
  • The People!! Wolverhampton is a melting pot of many cultures and beliefs - a microcosm of Britain as a whole I feel....
  • (My entry is the one below with Paignton in the text) I have to confess that I actually quite like W-ton now, having lived in crappy Devon for 2 years, and it has a good range of shops and a decent town centre. The metro is good, it's only 20 mins from B-ham and should become the new Millenium City because it's far better than Brighton & Hove !!! (Don't visit Paignton - it's a c**pheap of a place !!!)
  • Decent rail links. If you get tired of the local library you can join the massive University library as an "external borrower", for about £35 (the price of a few art books).
  • It's hard to believe but wolverhampton is very cosmopolitan with a varied community and influx of students, so you can be whoever you want to be without too many problems. Indentity lives on, cloning should die.
  • The Civic
  • the best thing about wolvo... perfectly placed for both country and city persuits, but the best thing ever is how endearingly crappy it is... everyone cringes when you tell them where you're from but as soon as they take one look at the shimmering tack of the town centre, they all fall completely, hopelessly in love.
  • The Outta limits club
  • The air vents at the back of the Civic Centre provide hours of lasting entertainment if you come equipped with an old plastic bottle. Watch as your rubbish is whooshed up and suspended in the air...
  • The best things about Wolverhampton are those that are never appricated by those who have always lived there. Three years ago i moved away to telford, but i cant wait to come back.
  • Fairly cheap beer in most pubs
  • Midlands Metro rapid transit system - i.e. its now even quicker to get out of wolverhampton
  • Wolves is right next door to Shropshire which is absolutely beautiful.
  • I lived in Wolverhampton from 1976 -1981, till i emigrated to South Africa. It was'nt the best of places but I am proud to say I lived there and next year I am taking my South African family back to Wolverhampton to see some of my roots. Up the Wolves !
  • The beauty of Wolverhampton lies in its innate 70s ness, its terminally crap yet rich football club and T. J. Hughes department store for bad taste clothes under five pounds. What else can I say? Countryside only 10 minutes away, a lot of cack nightclubs for shoes, notoriously inconsistent door policies in all the pubs and bars over from the theatre (take some shoes if you want a late drink in the theatre bar) and the Light Bar now charges you for the pleasure of getting in and having incredibly loud music forced upon you while you snake over to the bar through all the people who still insist on having pony tails and still drink Sol. Love it. Oh well, that's all I know, just don't hang round the fruit machines in the University at lunchtime, you'll have an eye out (nearly).
  • Banks's Mild Ale and Indian Food
  • The best thing about Wolverhampton is that it is nowhere near as bad as you think it is going to be. I came here 15 years ago and kinda stayed here.

The Worst Things

  • WOLVERHAMPTON=SHIT HOLE but thats y i luv it =]
  • CHAVS, OCEANA!!!
  • the chavs
  • Too many Asylum Seekers the Town is full of the Scum and they are usually wearing Leather Coats have Square Heads and Huge Noses. Gills Chip Shop at the end of Bilston High Street avoid at all costs unless you enjoy having Food Poisoning and the Squirts for 3 days.
  • the place is as clean as an unflushed toilet
  • Wolverhampton itself. Horrible, rude, aggressive, ignorant people. I've lived here for 30 years and can't stand the place. The only things that keep me here are my family and my girlfriend. I've lived near blakenhall, Low hill, Whitmore Reans and Bilston. Need I say more.
  • The road into Wolvo
  • the redevelopment is going to cause massive delays everywere we dont need loads of the same shops. on cleveland street the shops are specialist we need to keep them
  • Theres always loads of police and wardent patroling the streets.
  • All the fucking kids hanging round, homeless people trying to steal your happy meal, and the lack of talent.
  • Friday Nights!
  • Usual drunken yobs ruining it for everybody else.
  • The lack of decent jobs. No creative industries.
  • atlantis
  • soon the council are knocking down half of wolverhampton to turn it into another shopping area that is to expensive to rent . all your favourite shop will be gone and replaced with coffee shops and flats . if you need any more info look on the council planning list , the areas to be bulldozed is cleveland street and all the way up to wilkos please send in a letter and tell them you dont want this to happen cheers
  • The overpriced music shops in town do my head in, all of their prices are just too high compared to the out of twn places i go to like soundmasters and Petes Guitar workshop in finchfield.
  • Trendys
  • trendy stuff
  • 10 percent of Wolves residents.
  • our Accent
  • Wolverhampton should be the next place that Al-Qaeda bomb if you ask me. I lived there for 24 years and boy am I glad I don't live there anymore. It's not the town so much, parts of it are quite attractive, it's the scumbags that inhabit it. It's all well and good refurbishing the mAnder Centre, but it will have to be filled with £5 shops to satisfy the scrubbers of the town.GAP couldn't even stay open that long because the tramps in the town will only buy their clothes from 'ranjits buy one get 12 free bonanza' AS for the nightlife, well, if rubbing shoulders with ratboys with bumfluff on their chins and slappers in their cheap polyester ranjits dresses toots your whistle then this is the place! Newcastle has got a contender for slags going out in sub-zero temeratures without coats! By the way, clubs in Wolverhampton think its cool to play 'Come On Eileen' and not in a post-ironic way either. Say no more!
  • The lack of any real sophistication, too much is bog standard in every way including many of the paintings on view at the art gallery. The abuse of spoken English in a vulgar way
  • ring road
  • the mander centre
  • TOWN IS FULL OF SMELLY MUSLIMS, ASIANS AND BLACKS
  • all the wolverhamton girls cant keep there legs shut, and too many crack heads and too many weird shops and not enough good shops, some weirdo's most people,no girls have respect 4 demselves and they think by shagging the boys they will win love and a relation ship WARNING! GIRLS some are just taking u for da ride and call u a shag behind your back to the boys know matter how much the boy says he wont tell anybody he always do's so dont trust just anyoneif you rdumb emouth to give it away then u gotta have brains and use them example if u shag em they think that your jsu a slag and that they can have u anytime do things like that with a boy u care and have feelings for not for someone u know but dont realy talk of just mates or just any one try and push them away
  • the grebos by the man on the horse The bad ares aka whitmore reans, heathtown etc
  • Pendeford - don't go there unless you're armed with a knife, baseball bat, rottweiler and a shotgun. Gotta be one of the worst areas in the country. There's a sign near Safeways that says they are trying to impove Dovecotes - my advice: BURN IT TO THE GROUND !!! That's the only way you'll improve Dovecotes. Pendeford Park is just Dovecotes with private houses. Stay away from here unless it's absolutely necessary.
  • Wolf FM - after suffering this for up to 6 hours a day, I have decided it rots your brain faster than heroin. If I wanted to listen to the same music all day, I'd get a CD !!!
  • theirs some really shitty places skaters should't walk through on there own u'll be raped 6 times by the same guys
  • muggers, thieves, unemployed asylum seekers touching up girls in the town centre etc.
  • Everybody looks the same. If you are an outsider to Wolverhampton you will need to blend in or get beaten up. If you are a boy, it is advised that you invest in a pair of Rockports, some Moschino jeans, YSL jumper (or Kickers jumper) Ben Sherman shirt showing over the neck of jumper and a short, gelled-to-death hairstyle. If you are a girl, the idea is pretty much the same, except you need to swap the Moschino jeans for leggings and your hair should be scraped back into 5 individually coloured scrunchies. At the weekend, girls will need to wear a triangle of material from Topshop as a dress, without a coat and 12 pairs og gold, hoop earrings.
  • So called "Wolverhamptoner's" running the place down, if its so bad leave. Glad to see some of the people who are moaning have allready left.
  • Wolverhampton, do you need any explanation?
  • Dovecotes estate (Pendeford) - four miles west of the town centre. Don't go here unless you have to, it is seriously riffy and full of people on the dole. There are also rottweilers left, right and centre and several shootings over the last few weeks. This is one place you do NOT want to go in W-ton !!!!!
  • The litter and Heathtown (much the same really).
  • MORETON COMMUNITY SCHOOL BUSHBURY this place has been going so long i can't remeber but the sooner i forget that place the better
  • trendys old folks complaining
  • The groups of lads that throw bottles on the nights in Town. The continuous supply of tossers that make noises at you and start fights. Dog rough Girls everywhere. Reminiscents of the things I hated about school
  • no nice men!
  • people like the immature persons that have discrminated against and ridiculed those that hang around the black horse because they are different. Did you know that greibo actually means fashionable? well you wouldn't would you. this is what is so crap about wolves its full of arrogant single minded nobodies. unfortunatley thats what gives the rest of us a bad name. thanx. just be thankful that there are people willing to try and be different and don't just follow the crowd. as i said before, nobodies.
  • MANDER CENTRE, DAMN IT!
  • Some parts of Wolverhampton look really grimy and orrible, and u sometimes have to be careful when walking about during the early hours of the morning.
  • The giffard, the sky club & my ex
  • not enough nice pussy in wolverhampton!
  • You can't do much on Sundays.
  • Never use City Cars, as taxis as one of the drivers punched my mate in the face.
  • The masses of trendies. 15 year olds with kids wearing Adidas.
  • Most of the deprived (or is that depraved?) east side of town.
  • Williams Holdings The Far East - Ask anyone who works at Goodyear or Chubbs
  • Wolves stook in Division 1! Most of the streets leading out of the town centre, have too many old empty premises, which need to be refurbished, and opened up to provide bars and nightlife in other parts of the town. The town generally needs a bit of a facelift.
  • Well, Christmas is almost upon us and what better way for Wolverhampton Council to celebrate the festivities than hanging speakers on every lampost or bollard churning out a non-stop mix of pathetic carols sung (wailed) by local school kids. When you're comin out of the pub it sounds well freaky. Another thing that gets my goat is the, um, wild goat of Whitmore Reans that can often be seen on Peace Green (where animals still have graising rights) munching away merrily. There is also a pack of dogs that patrol the streets in the morning between 4.30am and about 7ish All of the dogs are fairly friendly except this one rabble rousing Jack Russell who never fails to fire the rest of the bunch up into a flurry of teeth and claws.
  • The University - where I work, and get paid to type all this kinda stuff cus there's nothing else to do.
  • WWFC - an organisation that typifies the aspirations of the residents. Its not that the club is going down the pan so much as it is busily going nowhere. The nearest the fans get to celebration is when we sing over and over - 'We are Wolves' - nuff said really
  • The miserable weather, all the time! Everybody's miserable stinking attitudes, too much bad vibes. No classy women and I've been through all the bad ones.
  • Blast off should be banned!
  • Everyone thinking you should have a Brummie accent.
  • The cost of the council tax. It is extortionate!!?? It bewilders me how they get away with it! Not to mention the fact that when you go into town you then have to pay to park your car, and that isn't cheap. I recommend shopping in Telford or the Merry Hill centre where the parking is free, and all the shops are the same if not better!
  • The railway station - ugly ugly ugly.
  • They are still some thick shits who all shop and wear the same clothes, and god knows how, they all have the same brain cell between them. Individuality scares the fuck out of these people so they react in the only way they know... fistiecuffs, daggers, clubs and sometimes guns! The missing link... ape-man!
  • minge and an inch dresscode for most of the tacksome clubs, but seeing as you would never want to go to picassos or atlantis anyway most people are happy to let the evil little trolls in stilleto's have it.
  • The muggers
  • It exists, and to think somebody planned this...if I ever catch up with them!!!
  • BEING CLASSED AS A BRUMMIE
  • Blakenhall, Heathtown, Whitmoreans, actually half of W-ton.
  • Highfields High School
  • What about stuff for gays? Sorry straights - but we have a life too! Pity about the Silver Web going, Betty and Norman finally flew off to their casino in the Bahamas - good luck to them too. They ran one of the BEST gay clubs ever! They deserve their happiness - they gave a lot to others. Loads of people will remember Norman and Betty. Best places to cruise: West Park after dark. STAY AWAY from toilets - queer bashers lurk (they that protesteth etc...) STILL a lot of closet gays in the Alex in Chapel Ash. Just do the old eye contact stuff - but NOT when they are with their mates! Wolverhampton Police have a GOOD attitude towards gays - very tolerent I found. LOADS of pubs in Wolverhampton are really 'mixed'. If you want to live in the Gay Community, try Heath Town (Yes!) or Chapel Ash. I now live in London - but would prefer to come back to Wolverhampton.
  • Having lived in Wolverhampton for 18 years and 4 months of my life, I have come to the conclusion that, apart from the town centre and the local radio station, it is one of the crappest places on this earth. I moved to Paignton in June and have no intention of going back to visit that dump for at least ten years and there is no way I would EVER live there again. The place is crap, it's a dump and I hate it. I happen to be blessed with a horrific accent which comes from living there for so long. I am trying to get rid of all traces of it from my system. To anyone who is thinking of moving there: Don't bother!! It will be the worst decision of your life!!
  • Living in Leeds, I can happily say that I don't want my beloved Wolves to get promoted. It's the be-all and end-all if you ask the average Wolves fan, but ultimately we all know that if it actually happened, a little bit of the tardiness of Wolverhampton would be lost. It's not a shiny place you see, but lost in the recent past, always lagging behind despite the best intentions of all involved. I have this nasty feeling that one day we will reach the Premier League and then those long, long cold Saturday evenings spent in front of a roaring fire downing pint after pint of some unheard of guest bitter in the Newhampton, would be to no avail.
How beautiful the curry tastes when you can't quite focus, but it's Sunday tomorrow and even though we lost 4-1 at home to Stoke, there's an eery pride in supporting The Most Underachieving Football Club in the world. If we do ever get there, then we'll have nothing to moan about! No more freezing your bollocks off at Grimsby and Barnsley, the home fans staring at you and 2,500 others singing 'We love you Wanderers' even though we're 3-0 down and the 90 minutes are up.
In Wolverhampton, we all pretend we want to be good - as does every town in the country - but deep down, we're exceptionally happy wallowing in our cynicism. Then, you see, that glorious Stevie Bull winner against the Shit in the last minute is just the Best Goal In The History Of Football. "Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end......"
  • Tettenhall is a nice little area, and the pitch and putt golf course, about a mile out of town is fine value for cash! I saw a hole in one at hole 14.
  • Wolverhampton - what can you say?? I spent three years there at uni, and if I can re-emphasise a point already made... Don't hang round the uni fruit machines!!!!! The clubs are getting steadily better, and the Moon under the Water is a fine drinking joint. I'm going back on Saturday to reacquaint myself with the place, and see how my old house on Drummond Street is... apparently a guy plays loud musuc from his car most nights down there.
I'll always remember a guy who looked like Tracy Chapman, trying to sell drugs and ponce money off people by saying he'd lost his train fare back to Birmingham?? Ring any bells, or the guy who plays Reggae from his window near ASDA's... class geezer! ASDAs was a fine store. If you get the chance, make sure you get served by Shilinder, the most jovial of checkout girls.
  • OtherThings:
    • There are BAD areas of Wolves to steer well clear of -- about 1/2 miles out in all directions.. esp. Heathtown, Whitmore Reans.
    • Wolverhampton does have a cinema showing mainstream films, in the shape of the Light House Media Centre. Ok it only has two screens but it is much cheaper than the local multiplexes (especially for students), is close to the town centre and there are a couple of decent bars in the foyer.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Wolverhampton. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Wolverhampton.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
