The Best Things
excellent surfing beaches, Fistral bay has the best waves around and watergate bay is a long sandy beach with a kite centre and surfing school.
Smuggler's Haven! a welcome relief from the wristbanded hell that is Sunnyside anyway. a champion campsite, full of teens who go there to consume more alcohol than the entire volume of their caravan, and then complain when they get ripped off. of course you will, it's newquay in the summer! you couldn't rent a cockroach for less than a tenner. so, it's bad in some ways(dirt, fantastically bad club) but it's got the sun and the people and it's laid back and lovely lovely lovely.
the people the beaches the clubs the atmosphere the shops
i grew up in newquay and now live in london.i think all the people slagging it off must come from a bustling city where they have the same routine day in day out and dont know a genuine nice place.newquay is great to grow up in.theres always something to do and somewhere to go, and its clean!!
the people slagging it off are probably the emits, and thats what all the locals hate anyway!
the beaches are beautiful(except porth!)and the clubs are good, at least you dont have to spend £20 just to get in!yeah there may be young people in tall tress and others, but so what!get over it!
Run To The Sun has to be the best time of year coz its so much fun!If the cops ever do manage to stop it theyll be a rebellion!
i miss newquay so much so STOP SLAGGIN IT OFF!
Living in Plymouth
the surf. the lively atmosphere. everyone is looking to hav fun.
No-one has mentioned the Walkabout, the Australian themed pub / nightclub not far from the bus station, I spent the summer in Cornwall (Perranporth, working) last summer (2001) and I have to say if you catch it right it has one of the best places to see the sunset in comfort due to its wall of windows and padded armchairs where you can sit with a pint, listening to your favourite tunes, watching the sea and sunset just as I did, the memory will forever stay with me... U have to be sharp to bag a good seat though.
Definately the Headland Hotel deserves a mention here - its Newquays most famous landmark, next to the country's most famous beach!
The best things are in the summer when very nice women are looking for a quick romantic week together or to get laid with some local lads.
The vibe in Newquay is something you will never experence anywhere else in the u.k Everyone is sooo chilled out and layed back, everyone talks to everyone. And the night life is great too!
The best things are the people, i went in the summa wiv my mates and we got smashed evry night met loadsa birds got on wiv evryone. there are kinda 2 main people out there, u got the headbangas and the normal kids, jokin and the garage peeps, both sides dont really mix but wen they do evryone gets on well wiv eachova!!! u can pull even if u r some fu*k ugly kid!!!! there were welsh scouse, us sarrfffffff london buoyzzzz!!!!!!, they ranged from evrywhere, but all were well safe!!! were all goin bak nxt yr to hvae anva fat time , c ya there maybe!!!!!! N.M.E
beaches all 7 of them
The Glen Court Hotel, Mellanvrane Lane. What can I say! Really cheap! Superb food! Well worth the 15 minute walk from town! They even give you breakfast if you miss it because you're too pissed to get up! Melanie, you are a star. We love you!
the surfs pretty good some of the time (spring & autumn)usually flat in thesummerbut now& then a swell popsup for a day or 2. winter gets great swells but its cccold!!! Lots ofgirls in the summer& great party scene pubs clubs & all that
Funky town in the summer. Most of the "locals" in the winter are us lot that have moved down from london etc
lots of surfschools, have a few lessons, it really makes a difference and its really good fun.
Meating all the friendly/gorgeous people there. Even all the girls we met in the loo's were great!
Great western beach, The red lion, The park outside Towan beach backpackers and
ALL THE GORGEOUS SURFERS!
Surfing Fistral Beach at five oclock in the morning when the sun is coming up, it's got to be the best surfing beach in the uk. Clubs are not tight on i.d so you 14 year olds can have a good bash any day of the week.
Surfing and music, great place for party animals/ bands beaches
The nightclubs.
Fantastic women in summer clothes!!
there are loads of skateboarders and surfers and nice beaches.
Watching the visitors get sunburnt!
It's cheap.
Flavour skate shop (Sean who works there is cool guy), Oasis bar (cheap drinks) ,Fosters bars Monday night (70's-funny), mad bloke with tattoos shouting and spitting at northerners, surfin, skateboardin, pullin, and there's another cracking bar but we're not going to tell you where it is (if you're cool the locals might tell you).
I have just come back from a week in Newquay, and it is the coolest place ever. Plenty of fit surfers, pubs, clubs and sun. If you need to get money out of the bank, don't go in the evening as the queue will take you about half an hour. Try to stay in the town. Lots of people who stayed at Trevelgue spent 6/7 on taxis home every night. If anyone gets the chance to go - GO.
Advice: If travelling to Newquay stay at a Backpackers Hostel because the people there are cool as hell.
The Keywest Hotel is an excellent place to stay on Mountwise. Reasonable rates excellent staff & near the pubs. I have been going for six years. The owner is a brilliant laugh.
Surfers Paradise. In the Summer, this HAS to be the best town in the Country for clubbers & pubbers... and the occasional Surfer... Fistral Beach, is the place to be seen during the day time. It's the place to be in the Summer...
The August surf comp. This is the time to be in Newquay the place is packed and there is a very good atmosphere, there is plenty to do on the beach, last year they had a skateboard ramp with some of the top skaters performing it was excellent and of course there is the surfing, if there are any waves!!!
Checked out the stuff on Newquay, mostly spot on. Absolutely right about Sailors being the best nightclub in the UK - although Sailors should also get best pub. Spent an entire week there (in Sailors, not just Newquay) during the last week of Euro96, and it was one of the best weeks of our lives. Also went in Berties (apparently) which I can just about remember being really impressed with, and Fosters I think, by accident, it was pants... and I think they chucked me out... Will be going again on the official "Stella Artois Tour 1997" in Our Caravan, Trevelgue, Newquay.... well maybe not official, but definitely Stella. hooray ;)
The Worst Things
sunnyside. the delightful prison like accommodation, where you have to wear a wristband at all times (yes, your whole holiday. think of the photos!)and the security guards act like a very angry (and muscly) mummy.
the family tourists and only being able to get a job in a hotel for the summer!although it is a real laugh!
The bloody 'southeners' tight sleevless tops, throwing up after 2 pints, and using stupid words like geezer! Go to Southend and leave us be!
Newquay in whole
the mayfield estate.....dont go there!!!!!!
The Atlantic - why would anyone build something as ugly as that?
The winter is the worst it is sooo boring and the weather is really bad.
the seagulls and the idiots that feed them!
Worst thing would be the trek we had to do wiv our bags up the hill tooooooooo far, i was told only 10 minutes but in fact it was about 20 - 25(hours), thats it all the rest is good.
no cinema
All the northerners who arrive in cavemen like tribes and ponce about in football shirts, pretend to be Noel or Liam, play their car stereo's too loud, nick anything that isn't nailed down and generally get on everyones tits.
Smugglers Haven is a shit hole. Last August me and my mate met these moody birds from Bristol and they took us back to their chalet there. Its a dive. Theres cockroaches, the showers don't work, its a rip off, its in the middle of nowhere.........(get the picture!)
SMUGGLERS HAVEN - we just got back from staying there-damn rip off-do NOT go there
1) there was a mouse in our chalet
2) it's built on a concentration camp
3) the electricity cable broke leaving us with cold water, food in the fridge going off and no heat
4) the bathroom flooded everyday
5) there were spiders everywhere
6) snails on the shower curtain
7) dirty perverts claiming they were from Loaded
8) Repeated break ins
9) police always around
10) smelly, damp beds
11) no cutlery - i don't need to say anymore apart from the fact we paid around £500/£600 for 4 people - how bad is that??
Ignorant Southerners who whinge about Northerners. Where's the North anyway?
I doubt if you know!
The winter! forabout8 months the town shuts down and theres nothing to do its getting better cause there sposed to be building askatepark
Having to come home is the worst thing ever, you'll never want to leave.
TALLTRESS PULLS NEWQUAY DOWN
Seagulls, there is nothing worse!
Smuggler's Haven campsite, Trevelgue, about 2 miles out of Newquay. Disgusting, an absolute rip off. I went for the August Bank Holiday (1998) and had to pay 46.50 for 4 nights when I was only staying for three because of the minimum stay rule. What's more, you actually have to pay 20p for a shower!! This is extortion. DO NOT STAY THERE!!
Licensing laws in Newquay are horrendous - nowhere is open after 1am. Nightlife there has the potential to be excellent but there are too many people with not enough places to go which makes pubs and clubs tightly packed out!!
All the crap that the visitors bring with them!
Winter: no-one is there, the clubs are empty and the place resembles a ghost town. Pollution, the beaches and water are a disgrace. No cimema! Newquay used to have two cinemas and a theatre at one time....
Beaches are dirty.
Tourists trying to drive round Newquay, they don't seem to understand what a one way sign is. Parking is non existant, seaguls were trained by the RAF. Traffic is bad in the summer - walk in if you are staying within five miles.
There's nothing here, too busy in the summer. Too many emmets (tourists), too many cheap and nasty shops.
Northeners in Umbro tops and Fat Willys shorts eating chips and mushy peas, tucked in Ralph Lauren shirts at night, pissin in the street, fighting, shouting, puking after three pints, poncing fags, taking up valuable space at night clubs so normal people have to queue for ages.
