Food

  • Loads of restaurants of varying types - including a Burger King now aswell!!
  • Wetherspoons, St Peter Port - pint and a meal for less then a fiver
  • Valentino's Mexican Restaurant. You don't need to go anywhere else!
  • Burger King in town. Heaven take away salads and Bagettes, Red Onion
  • Restaurants of every variety. Speciality locally caught seafood, but also many nationalities catered for. French, Italian, Mexican, Chinese, Thai, Irish, Indian etc. Not too many fast food outlets though - a Big Mac/KFC/Burger King free-zone!
  • Victor Hugo's at the St Pierre Park Hotel, has the best cuisine, and service you are likely to find throughout the Islands
  • Valentinos pizzeria in the centre of St Peter Port by the Crown pier. Ask for Justine & say Rick in Molesey sent you - she'll love you forever.
  • Partners now closed and replaced with Christies, just as good but dearer also simlply Ireland
  • And here's something from one of them: "Dix-Neuf Commercial Arcade St Peter Port, Guernsey's only true Brasserie, has been included in the 'Egon Ronay' Tobasco guide for 1996. To compliment our continental style of cooking, we also offer live blues and jazz on a regular basis. Don't forget there are other Dix-Neuf venues in Exeter and Torquay."
  • In my opinion, the best two restaurants in town are Partners and Dix Neuf. Partners has everything from pancakes to burgers and pizza. Dix Neuf is like a French cafe that sells anything from its menu at any time of the day, croissants and cakes are popular but they also have specials and hot meals too. These are both places in town. A couple of other mentionable out of town restaurants are the 'Houge Du Pommier' and 'The Idlerocks'.
  • Top Buzz, Hotel Fontenbleu, St Peter Port. With
No. 10 in Ann Place a close second.

    Pubs

    • Coalhole has been closed for a couple of years for refurb. Golden Lion has now reopened but is definately not the same as years gone by. Still good though!
    • Lot of out of date guff on here (its 2002 folks). Golden Lion open again, Harbour Lights now like all the UK chains, Coal Hole gone, Pony only fit for kids (I do mean young children, it has special room for them).
    • Imperial Torteval. Best local pub ever.
    • Bankers Draught (formally know as the White Hart) Albion, Nix, Red onion
    • The Bankers Draught...formerly the White Hart is brilliant. Live shows most weeks by some of Guernsey's top bands and for the lads and ladettes sports coverage on wide screen tv on Saturdays. A nice night out. Of course Guernsey's town being so small, is one big excuse for a pub crawl. Go to places like The De La Rue, Moores, The Appartment, The Ship and Crown before heading off to Antica Roma for a pre-club cocktail.
    • Blind O'Reilley's The Bridge, St Sampsons
    • The pub named the Golden Lion that is lauded elsewhere on this page has unfortunately been knocked down as part of a central town development plan. Try the Harbour Lights in St Peter Port for a taste of a real locals pub.
    • Loads of good pubs Blind O'Riellys down the bridge is good
    • I enjoyed the Golden Lion a few years ago - it was featured in a full page colour photo in Islands magazine. I also like the Hampshire Lodge near Cobo and the Pony in St. Sampsons near The Bridge.
    • Le Fleur du Jardin, Castel
    • The Coal Hole, Smith Street
    • The Cosy Corner, The Quay
    • White Hart, Le Pollet

    Cafes and Coffee Shops

    • Guernsey Parlour, Croix Guerin in St Martins
    • Dix neuf, in town. A little brasserie with a lovely atmosphere and delicious coffee and hot chocolate. Don't go there if you wish to be served quickly though. It isn't unusual to wait a good 20 minutes before being served. Christies is also goos, pricey though, but in the summer it is lovely as they take out the window and you are sitting almost outside effectively. Another good one is the greasy spoon 'The Bridge Cafe'. Don't come here if you're a toff wanting a cappuccino and silver spoon service. Come here if you want lots of greasy grub at good prices. A real winner... However desperate you are for something to eat though..don't eat at the White Rock cafe. Unless you like your food under cooked and swimming in grease. The waitresses in there don't talk, they growl!

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.
