Skateboarding Spots

  • Ok there are a lot of uneducated skaters in oke, but for the clever ones here is the essential spot-check list. 1. Skate-park: Start here as you cant hone your skills anywhere sketchier. 1 mini-ramp about 4'. A flat bank with surrounding guard rails 3'. 2 quarter pipes without coping 4' (DO NOT GRIND, YOU WILL DIE!). A Grind-box at 2-foot thats pretty long and actually quite fun if you have a mountain of wax at your disposal. An un-fun box with one flat-bank side and one quarter-pipe side with a 1 fot ledge runnung from the top to the flat bank side (This death-trap should be made illegal). All metal.....fun. 2. Jewsons car-park. Once both your arms are in casts from okehampton skate park hit this car park as it is actually pretty good. It has a raised entry point with a one foot wall surrounding it but at one end there is a 4' drop to a sidewards bank. Great for cabs. 3. Calor Gas HQ. A bit naughty but jump the fence and skate the front of this place just past the garden centre as it has a sweet bank to flat to 2 set with a wide enough flat to make it a sweet challenge. Rough ground tho. Oh, and dont smoke here, youll probably die. If you dont die of cancer anyway. 4. Red Lion Yard (Newly named Red Lion Retail Park). 4 Set quite fun, not too challenging. Stressy shopkeepers near by though, so watch out. In fact if you do go here watch out because the shop nearest to the steps originally set up a skatestopper in front of the stairs but that has been removed by someone. Whoever it was mad props btw! 5. Giblands/Scouse area. Around the top of Okehampton there is a Residential area that was made by some suburbanisation company the good thing is that there are loads of stairs and stuff. The bad news is the stressy scousers/mancs/skanks. Be on the lookout for a 5 to 3 set with rail it is awesome but the landing is a ankle breaker. There is also a 6 set that goes straight out onto the main road. 6. Okehampton College. Just outside of the town is a college with a few sets and gaps but ver very rough ground. There is also a 3 set out front where loads of kids normally hang out during schooltimes and teachers never care if you skate here. Watch out though because there is a door just after the steps and it doesnt half hurt when it gets smashed in your face. 7. Okehampton Primary School. A few small sets etc. Good fun. Beware of the drinking gang who hang out they are nice kids just go and talk to em. Tell em Greg sent you. 8. The Car Parks. There is a waitrose and Lidl car park double near the primary school which means loads of waxed curbs and a few gaps that arent really worth your time. There is also a nine-set with a curb just before. It has a zero land count so go and be the first to do it. This also proves a good initation oint for your friends cus if they buy you stuff from Waitrose then you can hang around with em all day but if they buy you something from Lidl then tell em to get back to Giblands. Thats it try and enjoy this reasonable skate town, at least the skaters are the coolest in the southwest trust me! Greg
  • There is a new skatepark in Okehampton which is still being expanded. It currently has a half pipes, flat banks and a fun box. Its down North Rd.
  • Actually there is now a Skatepark in Oke, yeah yeah i know it sucks but hey i though i should mention it. I am kinda new here so i can't explain where it is but if you go towards waittrose then keep going you should find it.
  • Waitrose Bottom Carpark (across the bridge) few nice waxed curbs, Gaps. Red lion Yard steps are a nice four set, nice for fliptricks

Skateboard Shops

  • The best skateshop in Okehampton and probably all of the south west is Skate Warehouse which is located at brightley Mill just outside of okehampton. Visit their website at www.skatewarehouse.co.uk as they have great deals on decks, trucks, wheels, clothing and media. They also do Inline equipment. Greg.
  • Freedom Sports in Fore St sells all sorts of skate gear at reasonable prices. They sell Flip, Baker, Powell, Birdhouse, Independent and more. Prices are good and the people are friendly.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Okehampton. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Okehampton.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
