Favourite Building
They just gave the Cornhill walk a new lick of paint! Hmmm!
The 'Break
The Norman Tower, for it's beautiful architecture.
The houses built into the ruined west front of the abbey.
the galleon (R.I.P)
it has to be the caravan mascarading as a club - Brazilias!
Demolish It Now Building
JJB Sports, IT SCREEAAAMMMS towny!
All Churches cos they're like a nasty Cancer!
The Corn Exchange.
I think most people would choose the sugar beet silos, which form most peoples first glimpse of Bury as they approach down the A14!
sneezums
Lord James Wild's maison.(that is french for house not english for palacial abode).
Cornhill shopping centre and all the f**king mobile phone shops.
The new bus station, or Cornhill Walk.
The Best Things
The A14 out of the place!
I grew up here, moved away and have lived in several other places...but it's nice to be back...and I can't think of a better place to bring up our new son!!
The nice feeling of home and the laugh you ahve at the sad individuals who waste there petrol revving up round the centre. Charlies for the best food and the laugh when oit with all my gorgeous friends
Train and Bus Stations can take you to bigger and better places.
Skateboarders, Metallers and cool people!
The people - from the youth, the Nameless Anarchist Horde (a group of twenty something romantics), to the elderly who can remeber old Bury before the war. Bury is quiet, sleepy and conservative with a small 'c'- but it's also truly beautiful as a place to visit and has a great charm.
Choral evensong at the cathedral.
The prospect of leaving next year.
The bus service in Bury is fantastic even though it is run by a half wit and his sidekick.
The Grapes, it rocks
The Worst Things
All the new houses going up on the edge of town, it's getting toooo big!!
the smell of the sugar beet factory
THERE IS NOTHING THERE! YOU HEAR ME, NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!
Gary Boys, Slags, religion, old people!
The lack of decent clothes shops, and the increasing amount of gary boys!
The nightlife is pretty nonexistent, the careers potential limited - if you want bright lights go elsewhere.
Market days when the drains are filled with leftover fruit
Students who go away then come back. Just leave you fading hippies.
When I was posted near Bury in the American Air Force with my now ex-wife (from Berkshire), it was my favorite place to go. Beautiful country, nice town centre. Worst part was finding parking on Market Day. Nice shops there too. My favorite place was the Cinema. Good one with good movies.
Can't believe anyone could hate Greene King! I left Bury 16 years ago for America and can't get Harvest Ale *anywhere* this side of the pond.
The beer in Bury is the worst kind imaginable: Greene King, renowned for making people vomit. [Howls from CAMRA over that one?]
Arthur Fowler isn't dead after all. He lives nearby our little town as do Bill Wyman and Terry Waite
I am a Bus Driver from Bury St Edmunds, and I agree along with most of the local population, that the service is rubbish. WHY? Coz it's run by a half wit.
The Public Record Office is a lovely place to do research. The staff there are particularly attentive if they know that you are not doing family history. And I second the recommendation for the Mason's.
Having lived in Bury St Edmunds all my life (so far), I despute the claim that Chicago's is a good night club. Also, whether Fleetwoods is the best pub depends on whether you like fights, drug dealers and people who don't wash much. I much prefer the Mason's myself.
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.
