The Best Things

  • Despite what the contributor below says in the "worst things" section, in order to join the Western Baths you do not have to provide details of your parentage or annual income. You do have to state your nationality on the form, but that is hardly unusual and isn't even remotely sinister. There is indeed a "whole" book in Hillhead Library about the Baths. Perhaps the aforementioned contributor should try reading it sometime before spouting-off about something that they clearly have very little knowledge of? Then again I get the feeling that reading a "whole" book might be a bit more than they can manage. The Western Baths now has a website at www.thewesternbaths.co.uk
  • THE WESTERN BATHS CLUB This swimming and health club has served the residents of Hillhead very well since it was established in 1876. With well over 2,000 members it caters for all sections of the community. The facilities are excellent with a large swimming pool, Turkish, Russian and sauna baths, a sports hall, gymnasium, exercise areas, reading rooms, etc plus a bar and social area. Although a members’ club, non-members are very welcome at a wide range of classes for such as aerobics, yoga, pilates and belly dancing. The facilities are also used regularly by various local groups for indoor football, badminton, sub-aqua, water-polo, triathlon, etc, etc.

The Worst Things

  • The Western Baths Club. Has there been, or will there ever be, a more elitist establishment in the West End of Glasgow. Not only do they only allow non members to enter this prestigious club, but to become a member, you have to fill a form, providing details of your nationality, parentage and annual income. There is even a whole book in Hillhead library dedicated to this historical building, and all it stands for. God Help Us!

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Hillhead. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Hillhead.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
