Food
With the exception of the noble house on salterton road there are no and i repeat no good places to eat in exmouth. No where can cook seafood right and if you want a good steak, cook it yourself.
only kfc or mcdonalds drive thru up by tescos, but loads of locals. minnies & mickies should suffice.
KFC!!!!
Munchies of course for the late night snack. However, one piece of advice - if you like Pizza - and I know this may sound bizarre - try it from the Turkish Kebab House rather than Minnies pizza place on the corner. Although Minnies is very nice - you will be amazed how delicious the "turkish" ones are. I thought my friend had lost the plot when she got one from there after darts late one Wednesday night - but can assure you it is now a weekly occurence!!!
Ali's Kebab's on Exeter Road, forget what they say about the mayonaise and colesaw (jus dont eat any) but i met my current boyfriend in there... c'mon!
11a in Church Street - unusual but great for get-togethers
endless. powder monkey is ok kinda expensive food depending what u go for but the BESt place for atmosphere and food is 'the famous ship' pub really good decor and wicked hickory chicken bagettes. go there 4 sure.
munchies (by the cinema!) great snack after scums ( samantha's)
Curry fans will be dissapointed with Exmouth. The town still lacks an authentic Indian Restaurant. The Ganges has recently been decorated with "matching" pink and red decor. The menu is limited and the manager has a serious attitude problem. Tandoori nights is even worse - expect to be served soupy tastless curries in cheap porcelain bowls with moody service.
I've heard good things about a new cantoneese restaurant on Albion Hill.
Powder Monkey and Wine of Araby
The Wine of Araby. Splendid food at reasonable prices.
munchies(in the strand) do a great all-day brekkie to takeaway, mmmm all that grease...!!
Loads of chippys, its a seaside town
Pubs
11a and Omallys are the nice-but-cheap pubs.
The Powder Monkey (Wetherspoons) cheap-but-godawful
Remedies and The Clipper - chavvy wood-panel type pubs, if you like that sort of thing.
11a for relaxing sofas. heavitree and the ship for bright shiny modern. strand for pool. anywhere out of town centre for locals.
most pubs are full of ponces,& pissed up lads that think they'e hard.11a is a good place to chill though..
The York - excellent all round pub for everyone - cheap house doubles - friendly local staff, darts teams, pool teams etc, etc.
For Pub Crawling - it has to be this route - Old Barrel, Ship, Heavitree, Remedies, Powder Monkey, York - Q CLUB!!!!! One question - when the hell is Lennards Bar/Malloys re opening! What a waste of one of the best pubs in Exmouth!
if you want to have a really savage drinking night this is the place to come,It has 52 bars inc hotels ,only a few steps to the next pub,and the people are the frendlyest you will ever meet(3rd best place to come on new years eve)
Remedies... filled with marines and bimbos, and the rich students, but theyr shots are lethal!
Remedies does the best shooters in the whole of exmouth!
Ship Inn - refurbed, great atmosphere and great seats! Powder Monkey for great lunchtime and evening food and drink
again the ship/old barrel good places but if you want somewhere quirky go to '11A' on church street the bar man makes up different concoctions of shots - if you go there try the 'turbo bean flicker' shot its a must have for everybody at least once! plus when ya gettin on to drunkeness - you can play giant jenga hahaha!
Remedies! does the best shooters in the world!
11A is the best drinking hole in town -expect an alternative crowd though. The musics laid back and the bar staff are nice people. They serve Staropramen, Budvar and cheap cocktails. Nice atmosphere early evening - does get busy and hot later on though.
The HeaviTree!! Best place for yummy shooters!! Best flavour is Mars!
11a is the place everyone a bit different goes
Avoid all the olde Englishe type pubs. They are like hangouts for Nazi war criminals and members of Combat 18.
The Ship- Home to the most comfortable sofa in british pub history.
The Powder Monkey- sounds like a gay pub, but just another strange wetherspoons name. Cheap drinx, but rather busy on a sat nite.
The Deer Leap- Nice to sit outside on summer nites(on the seafront)
Cafes and Coffee Shops
MAGNOLIA coffee shop -The parade (next door to JAPONICA) -very good cuppa, fresh sandwiches, and simple home-cooked lunches. Good value! Always clean and tidy looking. Helpful staff too!
loads and loads. best is wine of araby. sues pantry is expensive. sunlight bakery is good too.
If your local go check out Mark Hollands cafe/restaurant in Tower Street! HUGE portions - and very reasonably priced.
the alban cafe(o yes)
That greasy spoon caff on Albion Hill, they have a photo wall!
Becketts for some of the best butties and lunches in Exmouth
cafe on the green is pretty cool but we really need an "o'briens" coffee shop with seating in exmouth. c'mon please give us some good coffee!!
Franklins in the Strand is your best bet for lunchtimes - the coffee's not bad and the snacks are good. Avoid all "Mickies" retaurants and derivitives with their distastful decor and even more distastful grease-laiden "food" - I hold these cafes partly responsible for Exmouth's decline.
I love the Wine of Araby, serves decent food, lovely cook and manger, though the waitress can seem a bit stroppy!
