Exmouth, Devon Triumphs and Tragedies

* Important Note: all entries in the Knowhere Guide are the opinions of its users. see What is Knowhere for more info about the Guide.

Favourite Building

  • exmouth train station
  • The Heavitree Pub Gardens on a sunny day in the aftermath of an England footy win!
  • Clock Tower on the seafront promenade
  • hmmm well exmouth community college has recieved a bit of "re-decorating" recently. now are those giant green painfully pointy 7ft tall metal fences to keep the kids in or the "bullies from other schools" out? bear in mind that the only other local schools are primary ones. yarh like tiny lil ankle biters are gonna come to raid the comp - what they gonna use? play-doh?
  • Exeter Road school, full of light inside and looks quite welcoming from outside. Shame about the discipline issues. though! The public library and the pavillion.

Demolish It Now Building

  • Magnolia Centre, right now please.
  • Sam's.
  • TESCO!!!
  • The masons building, is its location supposed to be a secret?!
  • Exmouth Community College,
  • Imperial Hotel on the seafront - sorry, needs a big facelift as it's such an ugly building
  • not so much a building but the strand in exmouth centre needs a bit of re-vamping
  • sams!!
  • Scum's Shiteclub. A total dive dominated by neanderthal marines, whose brains make grains of sand look big. The bouncers are jobsworth tossers, mainly people who failed to get into the marines.
  • s-mart - need i say more
  • The whole of Exmouth. Especially the racist Tesco on top of the hill.
  • docks development
  • Samanthers club, it attracts trouble and scum

The Best Things

  • The seafront - beautiful stretch of fab sany beach -lovely for walks, the sea and the gardens -just peaceful and beautifull kept -AND we have 3 hippos this year!!! (Topiary is a wonderful thing?!?!)
  • the seaside when there is no holiday makers with screaming children on it and woodbury common cause they're too lazy to walk on it and to stupid to find it.
  • The Exmouth Seafront Webcam, www.ExmouthCam.co.uk - Live user-controllable webcam and forums.
  • the beach..
  • I dont know what it is about this place - but although alot of it is pretty cheesy - you just cant help but love it! Locals are all very friendly, lots of young people - home to the largest school in Europe, more pubs than anywhere else I know and three night clubs. Loads of chippes, a few decent shops, variety of cafes/restaurants, KFC, McDonalds, etc, etc!!! Oh - and a beach!
  • Cheesy clubs and pubs, the beach down past orcombe point, the people who aren't actually from Exmouth (thats me, my family and about another half of the town).
  • Young, lively social scene, great access to long sandy beach, good shopping ( despite what people say!) and a genuine interest in the town by the people who live there! Great access to Exeter ( car, bus or train ) 10 miles away with its huge business and work opportunities and airport. Great sports facilities including water sports.
  • i wouldnt normally say this but ever since that bloke was coming to exmouth to get his ex-wife or woteva the police have been really good! they r pretty much everywhere at night which does make u feel a lil more comfortable when walkin round at 3am.
  • toy shops. frindley people.
  • The students, who bring life into this dead town. The true Devonians who are often accused of being bigots and backward but are really nice and helpful providing you are genuine. It's a decent place to bring up the young provindig you also instill or encourage an open mind and love for all of humanity. The Steiner course and of course the beach...
  • The beach. When it's not full of inbred wurzles staring and shouting abuse at anybody who has a darker complection than milk bottle white and comes from anywhere else except from Exmouth.
  • the beach when its empty in winter
  • Not much, probably the Chip Shop near the Train Station

The Worst Things

  • The Seagulls! NOT CUTE -BUT 'ORRIBLE BIG BIRDS WOT FIGHT AND SCREAM AND SQUABBLE NOISILY ALL BL**DY NIGHT!!
  • All the chavs from liverpool and brummie land that are moving down here. Stop housing them council. Also the amount of work dogers in the town now.....they must be friendly with the dole people.
  • No signal on Virgin Mobile, T-Mobile, Fresh or Tesco Mobile
  • the people..
  • Students who choose to live here and then go round moaning about what a dump it is even though they are given discounts just about everywhere! grrrrr
  • Racists, Homophobes, Sexists, Bigots. The townie uprising mugging kids down in Phear Park and the coppers who wudnt spot a criminal offence if someone left Halifax in a mask and a full bag with "swag" written on the side.
  • Brilliant! sounds nearly as enticing as Uxbridge and West Drayton...
  • uncle chops blanks sportslink seagulls
  • Lack of evening entertainment and social scene for 13 - 17 year olds .... what is there? Evening transport a problem but taxis are plentiful! Seagulls being fed by tourists!
  • manky street pavement colours - used to be a nice kinda chalky white colour now just a really ewwy gray dirt coloured. exmouth needs some money invested to make it a nice place again. to sum it up "they started then they stopped" they need to start again workin from the inside out.
  • smackheads, the same as everywhere else)
  • Exmouth Community College. A school dominated by low-life bullying vermin, most of them are kevs and some of these bullying vermin pass themselves off as teachers, though some of them are OK. I wasted five years of my life there and I have never been anywhere so degrading. You are likely to be picked on if you don't smoke cheap fags, support man united, wear adidas jogging bottoms or become a parent at the age of 14. It has one of the highest under-age pregnancy rates in europe.
  • Thought Sams was bad - check out the Matrix - where you can still also buy glo sticks, and Carberet nite is not to be missed!!
  • The many people who travel down from all the multicultural cities in Britian, to avoid being dragged into the 21st century. The offensive golliwog dolls in twee shops, the miserable old people who smell of wee and have wee minds. The bored youth who have nothing to do but be rude with anyone who looks different and the fact that Sam's, Q club charge people to get in. They are crap!
  • The pride of the inhabitants. "I'm twelfth generation Exmothian!" Like that's anything to be proud of. The racist pubs and aggro hounds. The marines kicking off on a Saturday night. The students moaning about how they have no money while dressed in the latest gear and listening to a minidisc and trying to cadge free videos from Blockbuster. Old people. Exmouth is God's waiting room. The backwards, stunted, devoloutionary racial and cultural attitude of 80% of the inhabitants. It's like nothing after 1950 has affected this place...
  • no buses on a sunday night. too many chrity shops the tacky indoor market the amusement arcade
  • the beach when it fills with tourists in the summer
  • The skag heads

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Exmouth. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Exmouth.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
