Favourite Building
Walsingham Place, the curved Georgian street past Malletts
the new market inn (on lemon quay, formerly o'malleys, formerly to that the market inn)
Crown courts - fantastic modern Architecture
Sorry to say it but the cathedral looks lovely all lit up at 2am in the morning. Very gothic.
The Cathedral
There are some very attractive Georgian terraces if you look in the right places, especially Strangeways Terrace (apparently that's pronounced "Strang-ways" but I personally have my doubts).
Demolish It Now Building
any of the multistoreys, why cant they build them down instead of up?
Chicago Rock Naffe
THE WEDDING CAKE!!! (ie the crown courts)
there is nothing wrong with the bt building - its just the people who call us that's the problem!!
Police Station- Arrrrgh
The BT building and the building above Argos
Cathederal
Truro Magestrates Court
Halfords or Tesco
conservative club cash converters
In common with all buildings built by British Telecom, their building in Truro is utterly hideous and should be razed to the ground forthwith.
The wedding cake = Crown Courts.
The Best Things
the locals
great new long-haul travel agents - Spirit of Travel - near the Museum - v.good advice on round-the-world cheapie tickets or vising Oz or N.Z on the cheap.
The whole atmosphere. Very little rivalry in the pubs/clubs unlke Newquay where things can get dodgy when townies clash with surfers.
its small, its friendly, it's relatively cheap to shop, eat etc,
Low crime, you can walk about pissed out of your head at 2 or 3am but not feel worried about being mugged. Good shopping. No Riff-Raff.
treasure chest second hand shop lots of wierd and wionderful things at a price you can afford
Truro isn't crap - it's just a small city, and you can't expect too much of it. It's the people that make a place, and they always made it fun for me.
A very good net service from Avel Computers.
There is also a nice trip on the River Fal to Falmouth, Victoria Gardens, and Truro is only 15-20 miles from NEWQUAY (North Coast) best beaches in the world, and a similar distance from the South Coast. Has the world's crappiest cinema, which seats dating back to the 1950's (at least), Dolby Surround Mono, and films getting there only about three months after release. If staying in Truro you must visit:
The biggest problem is that it takes an age to get there [Truro] by train. It's >1 hour from Plymouth, which is only 50 miles away!
It's got more shops than Newquay - but not many.
Truro has been called 'Small version of NORWICH - Norfolk'. It has a Great Cathederal, and really nice shops. Everybody is just so friendly. You could spend all day talking to a stranger, and get NO shopping done. They have a V.good Car Hi-Fi shop, called "Flying Sparks" - in Kenwyn Street, and there is an NCP car park beside from which you can walk in to town in a couple of minutes. Just so nice to walk around, and take in the local atmosphere. BAD POINTS... Difficult to park next to the Railway station.
The Worst Things
Nice and quiet (well it can get disturbing)
the nightclub formerly known as lido, secrets and many other shit names.
the car park by calenick st. for some reason i can never park properly and there is always someone trying to go round the wrong way!
Chicago Crap Cafe
The fact that it is in the middle of no here miles from a decent set of shops. Nearest Plymouth
bloody seagulls and the people that feed them pasties in the streets.
Truro Magestrates 3 woman Stooges
A poor selection of good quality restaurants.
The church - falling apart.
Truro is crap. I've lived there all my life and there is no point in ever coming here. Go to Newquay instead.
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide.
