Musical Instrument Shops and DJ Gear

  • 'muso' (top of parkhouse st) closed temporarily due to flooding. Intention is to be back with a bang as soon as possible.
  • Theres one called Millers...I think it's called Millers anyway, next to Dancerena
  • There's a violin shop down River Street. It's round the corner from the Craigie Library near the Bed Shed.
  • 'muso'- 26 Parkhouse St, Ayr, KA7 2HH. 01292 288 282 Guitars, Drums, Ethnic Instruments, accessories, Public Address Sales and Installation. Great gear, great attitude, great shop.
  • Musical instrument shops? Except for Billy McEwans organs, you can go and blow your trombone in some other towns brasser. I played the keyboard (like a prodigal child) for years and years.
  • Billy McEwans place is looking as if its seen better days but is still in Fort Street in Ayr, if you are coming by car he's got a customers car park which is always useful in Ayr.
  • Frontline in Ayr closed after the death of its owner in some sort of accident. McEwans is OK but can get some items a LOT cheaper in Glasgow or on the net. Even shopping around in Glasgow can save money.
  • EcEwans is the only guitar shop but there is MacKayes(sp?) it sel loads of sheet music and more classical instrments. McEwans can be quite funny sometimes too but if you are nice to them they're fine.
  • Billy McEwans is still going as far as I know.
  • Billy Mcspewens is poor, ill even say piss poor. That is, of course, unless u like low quality high priced goods. If so then batter on in there.
  • Don't shop in Billy McEwan's music. Guys are dicks! Honestly! MAckays has all your needs (just off sandgate across from chinese). Glasgow or online for geetars.
  • Makay Music, clearly! Don't be put off by Mrs Makay's scary bark, she's a sweetheart if you're nice to her!
  • McEwans in Fort Street seems to have been going for donkeys years.
  • Billy McEwan's Music - Fort Street
  • Kustom Pcs, has opened a great web Internet shop which is accessible for purchasing almost anyhing in computers at www.kustom.co.uk. They are now the leaders in the UK for special Modified computer cases and other really different things to customise the computer. The two young owners are great
  • Billy McEwans in Fort Street. The only one I know of. There used to be one near the back of Littlewoods but its away now.
  • none anymore since frontline closed down
  • Frontline music was a great shop - pity its gone. Mackays is good for classical stuff and Billy McEwans for guitars / keyboards are both good
  • Billy McEwans - Fort Street (Keyboards) Frontline Music - was in Boswell Park, now moved (anybody know where to?)
  • Billy McEwans for guitars & Keyboards, MacKays for classical stuff
  • KUSTOM PCS 56, Fort St. Ayr- There is a small computer shop building computers also for the professional musicians. They are computer builders from basic office systems to the highest spec. One to one service is excellent and nothing seems too much trouble. A breath of fresh air after the Computer Supermarkets.
  • Frontline music - Boswell Park Billy McEwans - Fort Street
  • Frontline music has lost its lease so now its round to Billy McEuans.
  • Billy McEwans is quite good for guitars, keyboards etc and they also offer private tuition.
  • Buy Guitars from Frontline Music.

Recording Studios, Rehearsal Rooms, PA Hire

  • Again, near the old Mconechys Place. (scum)
  • 'muso'- 26 Parkhouse St, Ayr, KA7 2HH. 01292 288 282 Hires from small vocal PA up to stadium sized line array systems.
  • muso. New Guitar & Drum Shop just opened in George St, opposite the old Asda. Kewl.
  • Come on, have you heard of ME? Robert POB Wilson? Didn't think so, that shows you the recording studios we have in Ayr. Up until I left the town, there was nowhere and no community projects or anything where I could take my music and turn it into something. (By 'eck, I'm possibly the best pianist/composer you'll hear this side of the equator. What side of the equator am I on right now?)
  • soundmagic studio peebles street ayr lots of local bands us this cool place (the contra band fools circle and the times to name but a few
  • Ayr Uni Campus building. Cool radio place in there. Also now ayr college has a big recording studio sound lab thing.
  • Smalltown Audio Unit, 7 Cambuslea Road Industrial Estate. Biffy Clyro have used it, i believe.
  • Paisley Uni (Ayr campus) LYM in killie - www.lastyearsmen.com

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Ayr. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Ayr.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
