The Stuff We Can't Fit In Somewhere Else

  • SCHOOLS: ayr belmont, queen margret, kyle
  • For those of you with cars....if you ever need a good reasonably priced repair, go to the One Stop Vehicle shop repair yard in Green St Lane. I've used them a few times.
  • Ayr used to be a good place to live, but its becoming a town of two halves ; wee neds who think a Corsa with a spoiler has street cred and old pensioners who come here to retire. Feels like the generation between 25 and 45 has left town.
  • Fancy a smoke in Ayr? Give me 3 months notice and I'll meet up, have a drink, a social smoke at a friends house, even show you the sights and sounds myself.
  • the stuff ayr fits in is people who dont slag towns they dont know!!! STOP DISSIN US!!!

  • um. heads of ayr! rules. also the farm park...im 16...its for any age!
  • Don't go to the powerhouse. It has a cheek calling it powerful.
  • Cruise scene along the esplanade, busiest on Fridays and not bad turn outs on Thursdays, saturdays and sundays.
  • Dont diss the shore crowd, every1 is pals down there and there are always folk to talk to when bored. In summer some of the cars are stunnin
  • Watch out 4 the dali crew, lochy possie or the zulu's !!!!
  • Ayr is going to have a college called SMART (School of Music And Recording Technology) which will be cool, cos there are a lot of good bands out there, but very few studios with educated staff. Should be build in 2002 or so
  • *Main fish market and fishing fleet of Ayrshire was on the south quay in the River Ayr which is the harbour with the Griffin dock 2 the North. *Used to b the best fleet in Scotland with 53 boats based there with about 50-60 visiting boats on a regular basis (there were so many u cold walk from one side of the harbour 2 the other dry foot for the length of the quay), was the best place 2 get a summer job, and was brilliant for getting crew cause loads of kids leaving school had worked on the boats during there summer holidays and new there was good pay 2 be had.Best trick was 2 stack bowes of fish 3 high and fill the bottom bow with gulls , when the auctioner kicked the second last box of he used 2 get pecked like hell. *Now the boats are at Troon the few kids or people that come down to the harbour are only intrested at kickin shit out of the boats there are only 14 boats left with about six 2 go in the decomishining scheme, there are no longer 100's of boxes of fish landed a night actually ure lucky if u can catch a fish in the Clyde only shit quality prawns. * As for Ayr the market, ice factory and offices have been knocked down taking the hustle and bustle out of Ayr, the counsel has managed 2 wreak Ayr by allowing for flats six stories high and painted electric yellow and red to be built all down the length of the harbour meaning that u cant see Ailsa Graig or the heads of Ayr any more
  • AYR UNITED ARE NOW A DIVISION ONE TEAM ! AND DOING RATHER WELL AS IT HAPPENS. I WAS BORN IN AYR AND LIVED THERE FOR A DECADE BEFORE MOVING TO ENGLAND. IT IS DEFINATELY THE BEST PLACE TO LIVE OR VISIT IN SCOTLAND. (OR U.K)
  • Only really sad people cruise down the sea-front in their cars.
  • I agree that Ayr has a beautiful beach. It needs to be preserved though. The local council has supplied garbage cans (refuse bins?) attached to the boundary wall, yet the the beach is strewn with junk. People of Ayr, be proud of your beach, don't let the yahoos win.
  • Another place is BUTLINS. It's an amusement park and camp ground. People from all over England, Scotland and Ireland go there on holidays. They have rides, discos all in the grounds. Most people go there hoping to hook up with a summer romance.
  • 'Electric Brae' south of Ayr (near Croy Bay). Bikes/cars/balls/pencils all roll up the hill!! It's been written off as an optical illusion because of a combination of about seven different effects... BUT I THINK DIFFERENTLY!!!!!! Check it out!
  • Ayr United Scottish second division survivors (only just). Ayr racecourse venue for the Scottish grand national.
  • Half-hourly train service to Glasgow via coastal route.
  • Butlin's Wonderwest World nearby
  • Indoor swimming baths with novelties e.g. flumes
  • Good beach
  • Heart of Robert Burns Country.
  • Get your haircut at Lavano's.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Ayr. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Ayr.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
