Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars

  • Still a bit of sticky carpet, but has a great night recently at the start of March. Good miture of music and enjoyed the night...haven't been down there for a long while.
  • Things seem to be changing for the better in the re-named one and only nightclub in Teignmouth........Kools. Atmosphere is definately better. Went in for a rare night out with the girls and as an married mother enjoyed giving it as much as the youngseters. Our night was made by Aidi B.....DJ. Playing an alround mix from old to new with most of our silly requests included. Found out (via tarting) he's only been there for a short while but has been all over (so to speak). Looking at previous reviews I can only say things are changing and for the good of the town.
  • In the area and went into the one and only nightclub Kools (formally Hot Bannans). My friends told me that this wasn't going to be anything special but by two o'clock I had danced the night away. A mix of old skool to modern day dance, R'n'B, and Chart to Cheez also thrown in for good measure. Musicial taste is different from where I from but hey whatever. Just for entertainment, the DJ, Aidi B isn't sane and is constantly trying to enthuse crowd participations for that 'Kools' experience. Basically I had a great night out without having to get pissed for it!!!
  • This weekend done a night in 'Kools' formally Hot Bananas. I'm surprised at the previous comments as being down from 'up country' I had a cracking night. It seems the DJ, Aidi B, is new to the venue but banging in an A1 performance that most other would be proud of. A great mix of Chart to cheez, dance to tranz with old stuff thrown in for good measure. No trouble in the only lively place for miles around. Aidi B is a must see......he's mad !!!
  • Hot Bananas "Club" in Teignmouth - tried it. It's full of tossers whose idea of a good night out is pouring drink down their necks until their tonsils are afloat followed by a greasy take-away which works as a great emetic judging by the pools of spew around the town after a typical Saturday night. Also full of single mother welfare-witches trading their favours for a night on the piss. But if you're allergic to penicillin, take a packet of condoms with you.
  • Hot Bananas is now Coolz - and the only reason most people go there is to carry on drinking when the pubs shut! Either that or they're over 40 sluts who try it on with the guys.
  • please let me tell you the truth about the fantastic club of ours......it is a 'only one of its kind' unique social gathering experince that YOU WILL NEVER FORGET>>>HOT fucking BANANAS is about as much fun as 'licking thrush infected piss of a stinging nettle plant'.....the door staff are so hard and yet pro, that they have introduced a new method of dealing with true trouble making wankers but now they apply it to the NON trouble making people who do not do anything out of order, but still get there body kicked around and battered to pulp, regardless of your sex, age .........thats right, the male bouncers are now beating up women, even in some cases, they end up in hospital,...broken bones......thats the truth about HOT BANANAS and its fun fun disco party nights, so if you are into beating women, and girls, then this is the place for you!!!!!!!!!!
  • Hot bananas was much better when it was bugsy b's. When it had sticky carpets and you went in wearing loafers and came out wearing platforms.
  • Hmm, Hot Bananna's anyone? Oh for the days when it was seedy little Monty's! NOT reccomendable...unless your over 50 and desperate that is
  • If you want to laugh your arse off go. if you want to do something more interesting count grains of sand!! quite simply SHIT.
  • HOT BANNAS
  • Banana's aka Monty's for those who remember. It was crap then, and is crap now. You can't get in with trainers on, which is ridiculous! However until they extend licensing hours in normal pubs this remains the only place to go after 11.
  • Yeah... Right... "Hot Bananas" A Club ??? Nah... Take My Advice, And Go "Face" In Torquay...
  • Hot Bananas, but make sure you are already drunk before you enter!
  • Theres Hot Bananas but its really just another pub with later opening hours.
  • New club opened in Teignmouth quite a while ago, called Hot Bananas. Not bad but a bit small and drinks are well over priced. Good if you like a dance with your mates when all of the pubs are shut.
  • Monty's. The only place in Teignmouth after the pubs chuck out. Well worth avoiding for its dreadful music, bovine clientelle, stale beers, simian door staff and flagrant disregard of fire safety. Oddly, as the only club in Teignmouth, it's often referred to in the Teignmouth News as "A Teignmouth Nightclub" as though there were many more.

Live Music Venues

  • Cavern in exeter, the Lemon Grove in exeter, Dicey's in Teignmouth, 3 Fat Fish in exeter.
  • New Quay, Dicey's, a jazz festival, a folk festival - exeter is better, but not much....
  • You can go and see some half decent bands (including mine, Guesswork) at The New Quay Inn, Dicey O'Reilleys and more recently the Cellars. Across the river in Shaldon check out the Ferryboat Inn and the Royal Standard. They all support local bands, even young ones, and in return deserve your support to stay in business!
  • Local band "Guesswork" who, for those in their fourties, include Will Shannan who was the original Teignmouth hippy (and the first skateboarder!) and Cliff Little the only 6'6" guitarist in Devon (probably) regularly play the New Quay Inn and Dicey O'Reilly's. Anyone who knows us would be welcome at our gigs but as we lived through the sixties and seventies you may have to remind us who you are! These are the only decent music venues in town, check out http://www.guesswork.freeserve.co.uk to see other local dates. If you know me, Will Shannan or Cliff Little get the email off the site and get in touch, don't be shy!
  • get in car point towards exeter drive for 20 mins...
  • HOT BANNAS
  • Somebodys Car Stero, In The Point Carpark !!!
  • Lot's of Jazz festivals but nothing for the more mainstream patrons!
  • Definately not Teignmouth Community College.. I LIKE FOLK MUSIC, but the folk festival was shite
  • If you like a performance by a bunch of schoolchildren then Teignmouth is your place, at Teignmouth Community College. If not then you're better off going much further afield.

Cinemas

  • Herad the old Riveria is being re-vamped...watch this space
  • They should really sort the riviera out, been shut for at least 6 years now, and nothings happened!!
  • Scott Griffin aged 10 started a campaign to get the Cinema re opened as a cinema . This was taken up by Cllr Bladon the District Councils Executive spokesperson for Leisure, Sport, Culture and Heritage, and by Cllr Russell the Executives spokesperson for Tourism, both have been actively working hard towards a succesful conclusion in which the community cinema consortium will be able to open and operate the Riviera as a cinema again , hopefully in the not too distant future.
  • It's shut over some stupid arguement with the council over seats...they were hard and uncomfortable and the council say they're listed with the building? GET A GRIP!
  • Would i travel miles to see a film there ha ha thats funny i have to travel miles to see a film. Teignmouth cinema has the potential to be an awesome place but will no doubt go the route of any other awesome building here and be turned into retirement flats.
  • IT'S BEEN GONE FOR AGES
  • Err No... CLOSED DOWN, AND LEFT TO ROT, AND DIE...
  • Our cimema has been shut down. Surprise, Surprise!
  • is there one
  • There used to be a cinema but thats closed. As have a lot of other places in Teignmouth.
  • None , the riviera cinema has now closed its doors
  • Just thought i'd say that last time I went to the Riviera there was only one other person in the whole cinema, and that was who I went with!! And they have just put the ticket prices up, again!!!
  • Brilliant old cinema called the Riviera, run by the parents of former Q writer/editor Bill Prince.
  • The Riviera Cinema. Tries hard. Allegedly has great accoustics and quite possibly has. It's a shame there's only one small speaker (behind the screen). It's not uncommon to be the only person watching a film here.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Teignmouth. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Teignmouth.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
