Hook-up Spots (That hallowed spot where everyone hangs around with their mates dreaming of the time when they can get into the pubs or clubs - a bench, a corner: you name it.)

  • Street corners on the Wybourn housing estate. A fine place to purchase any substance, get into a fight, be stabbed, shot or if you want simply abused. Gangs of 4 - 30 year olds stand on streets, from 19:00 - 05:00, spending their dole money and trying to forget how hideous and void of anything worthwhile their lives are.
  • city hall steps: THE place 2 go 4 all alternatives. Goths, moshers, punks, u name it. Occasionally they'll wander up 2 beef mountain which is right nxt 2 city hall or 2 Devvy Green on a nice day, but mostly city hall.
  • Gleadless Town End - but they'd screwed the little buggers by knocking down the library, banning em from the snooker club and getting the coppers on the estate! Nice one.
  • Corners of Jessops hospital.
  • city hall steps r great but watch out for the cops at devonshire green that r there all through the day now mainly cos of the 5 or 6 lads that r down there trying to have away with anything they can get there hands on. THEY DID STAB ME SO BEWARE. but the cops will bust u for havin a toke so keep your eyes open.
  • Endcliffe park, for when the sun comes out in sheffield!
  • The ideal place to hang around is "division street" its a quality street its got great shops for all u moshers out there and a nice out door skate park where u can just chill and get high whilst watching people skating around.
  • For the skater kids like I: the main hang outs tend to be places like the city hall steps, outside peak performance in orchard square, outside virgin or anywhere on division street/devonshire street, especially the forum and the park & skate park just round the corner. for the townies: theres the peace gardens and thats about it
  • The top of the Moor (Outside McDonalds) you'll find your type of peepholes and where thay're going.
  • oooh, the best place by far has to be devonshire quarter (home to the forum) get feeling all bohemian!
  • Who want to go art in dee dar land with all them strange-voiced freaks? What dar dooin deer den dee? Stop at ooerm or go to t'Tarn for proper entertainment.
  • Dore Village (The Recreation ground!)A place for low life losers lookin 4 a fight or a shag! U can only go there if ya THINK YA HARD ENOUGH!!!!!!! Also u hav 2 cheat on ya girlfriends wid sad mingin people dat look like horses! Da place 2 b on Halloween!
  • Well thats got to be The devenshire skateparkor the city hall steps everyone is really freindly evan if u don't know them u should go down on Saterday/ Friday night and have a laf/bong
  • Can't believe no-one's mentioned the permanent installation of skaters in Tudor Square outside the Crucible. Also a good place for spotting the glitterati performing at the theatre i.e. earlier this year that included Joseph Fiennes (Ralph also made it to one performance *sigh*) and next year there'll be the chance to spot the lovely Kenneth Branagh.
  • the big tree on the cadet field ( not a pub, a real tree ) make rope swings, smoke herbs and sledge in the winter
  • The peace Gardens/Club Wow
  • outside the city hall is usually a pretty good place to hook up
  • Gotta be Meersbrook Park a lot of smackheads on swings
  • Basically Charvas then?
  • The Peace Gardens, especially in summer or at night (but they have a security guard).
  • Sainsbury's
  • a comprehensive guide to sheffield skate spots can be found at: http://megalinks.net/~betamax/horse/places/sheff/index.html
  • Orchard Square, particularly around Waterstones
  • Note: now the the Goodwin fountain has been removed (to be put in the new peace garden apparently..) people are saying they'll meet at the ex-fountain. sheffielders just roll with the punches, man. cool.
  • Steps of the City Hall. Currently advisable to be a skateboarder or member of lo-fi pop band with a healthy interest in Kraftwerk, but hey...
  • Goodwin Fountain, or Fargate Fountain, great for meeting people, whether you know them or not, or just for sun bathing and watching the world. I don't know where I'll sit if they do knock it down.
  • Safeway's car park.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Sheffield. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Sheffield.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
