Skateboarding Spots

  • theres a pretty cool skatepark by leisure world, just opposite it. tends to be dominated by chavs that dont have anything else better to do than rip the mick into people that can skate..but is a samrt place to go. also, i know its not in colchester but marks tey has a cool skate park as well.
  • The square, Shrub End. Place where all the drugs use to be traded!
  • The little area near boots, red lion walk etc. theres stairs and benches there and its fun to watch everyone fall off :)
  • best place- the factory in the cowdray center!!
  • I think people have placed a little ramp in castle park for all the skaters out there, its not anything big but its something to do and fun watching the younger skaters attempt to skate down the hill and off the ramp, that's afternoon entertainment.
  • Some sweet spots around boots.
  • leisure world skate park, its not the best, but its better than nothing. also, castle park is good for boarding in, just beward of the nuts that fall from the trees in autumn, if you hit one of those your board stops, unfortunately you don't....
  • colchesters crap for skateboardin onli got the lil skate park nxt to mcy ds the brightlingsea 1 its great!!
  • Apparentley the car park behind Rollerworld is good!
  • If youn want somewhere to skate try the new development in Wivenhoe, a town near to colchester, 20 mins on the bus (no 78). Its on the way to Brightlingsea which has a skatepark too. Pretty cool really
  • There is a 4 set round the corner of leisure world and then if you carry on backwards from there you will come accross a steep ass bank which you can ollie over, but hard to ollie in. There is the undercover 5 set at the bottom of north hill (fairfax house) which is mostly ok, especially on sundays. If asked to leave, leave, don't be a mouthy shit. There is Royal London which is a 3 set and a flat bank. Cowdray with a few drops. Any undercover loading bay, you will get kicked out of! full stop. There is Anglian Water near Matalan, you can only skate here on weekends. If you go on weekdays, fines are in place! There is a 5ft high eight set here and some steep banks. There is another set, a seven. That is the CBS set, next to Wilkinson, go when it's closed. The park is opposite leisure world and next door to Maccy D's. It's pretty crap, but alright for a local sesh. Metal. Launch ramp, pryamid, curved low square rail, steep transistioned 4ft quarter, kinked round rail, 5ft steep mini, manuel pad with rail on edge and rail on one side, 6ft roll in leading to a driveway with a double round rail with a hip and then straight on from the driveway a 6ft high quarter. More work is to be done to the park. There is at least 8 or 9 other parks within a 30 mile radius of Colchester.
  • Near colchester is Brightlingsea with a skatepark with a vert etc and a dirt BMX track
  • There's the skate park, which is good, but keeps getting invaded by those after a fight. IN general noy so good
  • Loading Bays - only problem being you got covered in grot from all the trucks. the rails down by Wilco were only for the truly hardcore. Always stairs to do little flips from by Boots. Colchester's pretty damn skateable actually...
  • castle park, with benches, band stand and stairs
  • wivenhoe ship yard old warhouse with jumps wot people have made or out side wivenhoe trian station
  • Well some people think that the leisure world skatepark is gd but they are seriously misguided. The park woz originally designed by people who knew wot they were doing but the council idiots changed it and now there are no decent lines at all. Plus on hot days you can't skate anything coz if you fall off you'll burn ur arse off. Its a metal park. The grindbox is pretty good and the S-Ramp is damn challenging! But the rails r too low and there's talk that they mite be closing it down neway. If ur more into street skating neway then u could try down by boots. There r sum steps which is quite fun to kickflip over and there are rails too. just skate around the little backroads and carparks, ur bound to find sumthing!
  • A new but small skatepark is now open down by the drive through McDee's! Next to the Leisure world! Include's:- Ramps, Rails, Fly by's, Grind box, Quarter Pipe and a few other dope thing's!(Watch out for kids on bike's! they tend to get in the way a bit!)
  • Hoax is a great shop run by really friendly people
  • Clacton Pier - he he he.
  • Safety modified skateboard rig at the Rec. Small but better than nothing
  • There's a great spiral ramp in the multi story goes down seven levels in a big car park stylee. Loads of big curbs. Grind tastic...
  • The police and security guards are kinda hardcore nazi types, so it's best to stay out of Colchester town central.
  • Lots of street spots. Precinct at Boots = steps and slidy blocks. Loading bay underneath precinct = grindy curbs and drops. Sports centre = drops, steps, manual roll curb and grindy curb. Try new Tesco's car park in the Hythe, near University of Essex.

Skateboard Shops

  • bubba g has some pretty cool stuff for skateboards...dunno anywhere else really!
  • they are not that many so hoax is alrite !!
  • We are new to Colchester www.demonxtreme.com, we sell all extreme sports especially inline skates agressive, rec, hockey ice and roller. We have just got a large stock of skateboards and decks. It is the best shop in Colchester. A47 Cowdray Centre opposite the skate park and Leisure World. Come and see us.
  • You have the choice of Hoax, which has sold out pretty much since the new shop has opened.. it consists of trendy clothing, but a lot of blueprint boards nad UK equipment which you should be supporting. Aparently there is a new Hoax opening which will be dedicated to skating, and the other one will be dedicated to the rich folk who choose to shop in their for Paul Frank items. Bubba G as mentioned is a solid shop, sells a lot of gothic/emo junk.. but they have a good selection of boards and equipment if hoax hasn't got what you need.. also a strong supporter of blueprint. Skeleton Coast is another skate shop that opened up near the bus station, it's not great.. they sell some extreme sports junk and have a nice little cafe upstairs where they don't hassle you to leave. check it out the people there are nice. In the high street another shop called freespirit opened up with the aim to fill the highstreets gap for a alternate sports clothing shop, lots of pricey surf wear, some kack boards.. but a massive selection of clothes.. good stuff in the sales. That's about all folks, Colchester ain't so bad eh?
  • BUBBA G IS NOW THE ONLY DESCENT SKATE/GRUNGE SHOP IN TOWN SINCE HOAX HAVE CLOSED.
  • Hoax, its the only place to go, and its great!
  • SKELETON COAST in Queen Street is THE place for all yer sk8 stuff!! The guys in there can't do nothing enough fr you and they got some wicked clothes and 'extreme' gear!
  • hoax is great thts where i buy everything
  • Hoax & fluid or freespirit, bubba g also, not many really allsports do skateboards
  • Hoax, only place to go really. Everything you need: clothes, decks, trucks, bearings, wheels, bolts, loads of stuff
  • Hoax I guess but not really my thing!
  • There is Hoax, which has now joined up forces with Fluid and is upstairs at 1 Mercentile house, next to the key cutters. Hoax is INDEPENDENT and not a chain store, thank you! There is Bubba G, but this is more of the goth scene with chains and lots of black stuff. They do sell decks, wheels, trucks, bearings, but not much at all.
  • Fluid! It is more of a surfy shop but its moved to a bigger shop, near the original one. It sells really cool stuff.....I get nearly all my clothes from there. they are great!
  • fuck hoax they are shit and a bunch of qankers die die die corporate chainstore pricks! INDEPENDENT SKATER OWNED STORES RULE fuck hoax, route one and legends
  • Bubba G sells a few decks and things now, and theres always hoax.
  • Hoax
  • HOAX - top class shop, top class skaters.
  • hoax also behins v megastore good quality good labels good prices
  • hoax is probably the most popular but bubba gee has a good range as well
  • hoax which is near jean station and raw shoe shop
  • Hoax is the nearby skater shop, loads of stuff in there, and its in middle of town
  • Hoax, it is a totally sweet shop. The guys who work there all akate themselves so u can even go there 4 advice and stuff, they're really friendly plus they sell some pretty sick gear!
  • HOAX IS THE MUTTS NUTTS
  • HOAX is your best bet! Everything is there from complete set-up's to keyrings!
  • Hoax is a great shop run by really friendly people
  • See your skaters at the Williams and Griffins carpark every friday night. Scary stuff.
  • Try St Johns Walk and Sir Iassac's walk. There are 4 or 5 dotted around
  • Factory Skates on St. Johns? Wicked clothes and boards, but too bloomin' expensive. The price you have to pay for style I guess.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Colchester. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Colchester.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
