Food

  • Oysters in Walsall does good enuff chips at cheap prices so if you are grease friendly go there. Besides that for healthy eating you could go Italian at Sophia (cut-price Italian restaurant).
  • Bar Sport do really nice food....Milligans is still a firm favourite.
  • CALDMORE HAS LOADS OF GREAT INDIAN PLACES REALLY CHEAP
  • if u've never tried a greasy sandwich from the butty box DO IT NOW! seriously, they rock, if you excuse the temporary foot and mouth related price rise!
  • Pearl Kebab House in Palfrey.Go there if you enjoy spending the following morning on the craphouse.
  • baileys bar. 2-4-1 on all their meals. great!
  • ronny macs still on the ball
  • Bobs Chippy
  • WISHBONE-THERE'S NOTHIN LIKE A JUICY CHICKEN KEBAB BURGER AT 2.00AM FRI/SAT AFTER UR COMPLETELY PISSED UP ON CHEAP TENNENTS SUPER OR FORCE TEN AND YOU'VE SPENS ALL NIGHT DANCIN LIKE A COMPLETE FREAK IN HARLEYS.
  • oysters is the nicest chip shop in the world
  • THE WISHBONE IS A GREAT PLACE IF YOU WANT BLOOD WITH YOUR CHIPS ON A FRIDAY/SATURDAY NIGHT. OR EVEN TO MEET UP WITH OLD FRIENDS YOU HAVEN'T SEEN FOR A WHILE. PERSONALLY I STEER CLEAR AND HEAD FOR THE BEST PIZZAS IN TOWN CASPIANS!
  • Middletons on Wolverhampton Rd. is the best Chippy ever, Oysters comes a close second. Sofias is upmarket and a favourite for middle class trendy types who are "courting" The Red Lion on Park St, does a wicked beef in beer meal.
  • CASPIANS is by far the best 'boss'
  • Sofias serves nice Italian food and has given most of Queen Mary's high school pupils a job at some time or another.
  • King Balti near to the Watering Trough (or whatever its called these days). Take your own drink and eat one of the best Indian meals anywhere on Earth.
  • Planet Spice Bridge St. By Far The Best
  • GOLDEN MOMENTS IS LOVELY FOOD AND THE WAITERS ARE THE NICEST IN WALSALL, PUB FOOD IN THE LYNDON IS GOOD.
  • Caldmore Green - numerous balti houses and fast food outlets - Asian, West Indian. Check out the Agha Balti Hut.
  • Macky D's, BK and Deep Pan eat all you want for £2.95 - about 12 slices on average although I'm sure I could fit more in.
  • The French Connection baguette shop near Midland bank, 10 times better than Mc D's and I'm pretty certainyou wont get mad cow disease there.
  • Oysters in Lichield Street - best chips in the Midlands (possibly the World?)
  • KING BALTI Try the Murghi Shah Passanda the closest i get to sex served by a sweatly indian waiter
  • Plenty of so called restaurants and takeaways for one to take part in the consumption of fried rat and curried dog.
  • great food. balti heaven. my pick of the best are Shahi and king balti. AVOID taste of India...its awful. most in caldmore are good. for fast food you cannot beat The Wishbone in Abelwell street. try their 'chips, salad and chillie suace' for £1.50 - superb. also new thai place in bradford street is great.
  • Dont try any of the Balti houses in Caldmore, especially when your pissed. You often get ripped off and you can cut the grease with a knife.
  • The only non chinese, Indian or Balti restaurant worth a mention is 'Sofias' in the old courthouse up the Digbeth towards St Matthews
  • Just the mainstream supermarkets to choose from.
  • Well there's a couple of takeaways (f&c etc) and bars but most of us stick to Mcdonalds or Burger Kings
  • the best curry houses in the land take away on every street
  • Fatty Arbuckle's American Diner by Junction 10 - huge portions of tasty food
  • royal india restaurant cool food there more pitza houses than pubs, every type of food is in walsall, free delivery, not so cheap.....
  • Burger King

Pubs

  • Black Swan RIP....the only place in town with a Juke box.....I'll go there when it's been done up as a Toby Carvery..as long as the original "Berni Inn" scutters keep away from the food.
  • THE PRINCE, MILLIGANS, RED LION, BLACK SWAN, COURTHOUSE, ALL TURDS
  • i asked someone coming out of yates's to eat a worm last saturday and they did. if u kno me u'll remember how funny it was - it describes how drunk everyone gets. if you're in walsall, being drunk help a lot.
  • The Fullbrook is ok if you like mixing with men who have spent 90% of there working life on the sick. The women tend to all have four kids, unless they are over 21 in which case they have any number, all from various farther, (what else do you do when you are on the sick?). Having said that some of the women do have there tattoos correctly spelt.
  • The Bradford Arms, Palfrey. The best pub in the whole of Walsall.Great beer, great people, oh and the landlord Ravi, is the best landlord ever. Only thing is if ya face don't fit, you ain't walking out alive! Best bet is to say Kee Alee, to everyone you meet. You'll be a regular in no time!!!!
  • bailey's bar because i work there
  • they're all ok if you like shit beer and a scrap
  • YATES IS THE BEST 4 COCKTAILS-TRY THE SCREAMING ORGASM!
  • CHICAGO ROCK CAFE STARTED OFF BEING A GOOD FRIDAY NIGHT VENUE, HOWEER I REALISE THAT AFTER A FEW NIGHTS OUT THERE THAT THEY PLAY THE SAME MUSIC IN THE SAME ORDER EVERY NIGHT. THE CROWD HAS BECOME CONSIDERABLY ROUGHER AND A FIGHT OUTSIDE IS THE NORM.
  • IMPERIAL!!! But they took away the dinosaur, so that's a bit of a downer!
  • Everyone has to visit the Green Rock for a cultural shock!
  • There is no pub in Walsall that wouldn't serve my 14 yr old brother. Best to avoid Black Swan and Pen and Wig in the town centre, and any in the Darlalston, Willenhall or Bloxwich disrticts in the town.
  • I would like oto point out that the VARSITY is the cheapest on weekends you you have one of those keyringy things, otherwise the Old Court House is ok too
  • The Imperial is definitely the best pub in Walsall, purely because I work there!
  • The pubs just seem to growing on trees latley. My personel favs at the mo are yates, the varsity, the court house, and flans all the rest seem to atract preety boys and some very young looking girls
  • 'The Troff' now called The Rising Sun (Formerly The Watering Trough). Excellent night out. On Ablewell Street. See you in there on Friday's
  • Black Swan Good Old Fashioned Boozer
  • It used to be a case of every thursday down to the firkin, then the black swan, milligans and then scruffy murphys. Then I would be very very drrrrruuunnnnkkk!!!!
  • Flock & Firkin - ace night out. Bit studenty (no problem to me - I am a lecturer!) The Wharf Bar, next to the New Art Gallery. Good music Friday & Saturday. Good (Highgate) beer.
  • Town Wharf - till all the scrubbers took it over
  • Flock and Firkin was always a good place, oh and the King Arthur on Park Hall was good when I was underage!!!
  • Black Swan, Pen and Wig if you want a fight. Milligans if your 14, Imperial if you are a Grandad. But the Bollox is Baileys
  • Two best pubs in town are the Vaults and the Stein Bar, even if the bouncers at the Stein Bar are complete gits. Also you limit the chance of being bottled, unlike the black swan. And if you are under 16 go to Milligans.
  • Wharf bar is the best - sexy house music on weekends, chilled out in the week. Varsity is OK if you like cheesy disco music and waiting half an hour at the bar. Imperial's good in terms of novelty value - apparently when they were resesrching the pub the designers conducted market research throuout Walsall to find out what locals wanted to see most in pubs - the end result was a 50 foot brontosaurus in the middle with several lesser dinasours in the corners (velocoraptors, stegasaurui etc).....strange, but comical (cheap beer aswell) - Bonus!
  • The flock and firken. Make it your local, get in with the gaffer Dave, and it doesn't close at 11.30 like the other town pubs. There hasn't been a fight there since new year 1997 and I started that one!
  • Avoid the Black Swan at all costs, full of drunken nutters and Im sure i saw it on the cook report once.
  • If you cannot get pissed in Walsall then there must be something wrong.
  • difficult. to avoid headcases and people in stripy shirts try faln o'brines. but the best place has got to be baloons in ablewell street. cool, frinedly, and very multi-cultutal. flock and firkin up the road is ok.
  • The Court House and the Varsity are the only decent pubs in Walsall. There's a Yates' pub being built, that'll mean one more decent pub to go in!
  • varsity, black swan, the imperial with a 60 foot dinosaur in the middle of the room, flock and firkin, traditional pubs and now ultra modern pubs appearing every month
  • Black Swan is always a good bet
  • pub in every street practically the vine in walsall is a non alcohol pub, freaky for the kids, they have music for them.

Cafes and Coffee Shops

  • I HATE CHAPLINS OR BAR 2 SEVEN AS IT IS CALLED. MAINLY BECAUSE OF THE DIZZY WAITRESS'S. PLS AVOID AT ALL COSTS BECAUSE NOW SCOT MILES AND HARLEYS ARE IN ON THE ACT PROMOTING THIS PLACE AS A PRE-CLUB VENUE BEFORE HARLEY'S ON A THURSDAY NIGHT. DON'T BE FOOLED THE DJ'S NAMED ON THE FLYER DO NOT REALLY DJ AT MONEYPENNYS (SO I HVE BEEN TOLD).
  • You must try Chaplins, now Bar 2 Seven-gorgeous food, well it was when it was Chaplins. Try the Stuck on tofee pudding- phwoar.
  • The new Blue Cat cafe up Bridge St; cool decor, friendly and unpretentious, cheap - definitely the place for pale arty male 15 year olds to meet their only mate and discuss why the skate kiddies are wasting their life... No, seriously; an ok place to take someone kissable if either of you look too young to get into a pub, nymphs. If the conversation flags, you can go upstairs and surf the net.
  • Sadly Walsall revolves around alcohol, not coffee
  • Chaplins!
  • Chaplin's does a good selection of toasted sandwiches and warm beverages; justthe ticket for getting rid of a hangover on a Saturday morning whilst watching the world go by.
  • The Blue Café is a very comfortable, cheap and trendy place to meet at lunchtime. They have also opened an Internet Café upstairs called "Cyberia" (how original.) The rates are very cheap.
  • Chaplions is where the gangsters chill, Milligans do really nice sandwiches. Hhmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
  • Blue Cafe, fairly trendy but laid back.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Walsall. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Walsall.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
