Record Shops

  • Sundown Records is the best by far
  • Record shops???? who the hell sells them... we've moved up in technology but not in terminology!?????. Anyway there is aNew HMV up on the new shopping area by the Wharf bar..... Virgin records.... MV?? music and one in the saddlers centre
  • the place to buy musik is t.r.musik or goerges i live in walsall n i skate there n abouts so there we go
  • Walsall's rubbish now because both Bridge Records & Sundown have dissapeared. Both places had good Rock / Metal selections. I buy from the Internet now.
  • Try Bridge Street Records in Walsall for any unusual albums you can't get hold at your average HMV?Virgin shop
  • Kazaa
  • virgin megastores
  • sundown is the best
  • Sundown records
  • virgin
  • Bridge is cool, but there's always a geezer standing at the bar talking to the assistant so you feel a bit self-concious even though you probably know more about music than they do combined. also, flip-side records near sofia's, it's only small but a lobaour of love...they guy in there comes on a bit strong though cos you're invarably the first person to come through the door other than him in about two weeks
  • Best selection,I usually go to Tempest's in Birmingham
  • Bridge regords is great for DVD's videos as well as CD and vinyl
  • Bridge street records do some quality old skool vinyl, and have regular deliveries of new stock. Great for picking up classic 12's. Sundown Records, probably the best place in walsall for picking up import tracks and the odd rare choon. Can be pricey, and one the sales blokes is a bit of a ponce.
  • sundown?
  • Bridge Records. Fred is da man!
  • Bridge records, has a large selection of second hand records. It also sells CDs and tapes.
  • sundown records just off park road opposit supersics
  • Sundown and bridge records r pretty cool
  • andy cash maybe
  • for a great selection of goldern oldies, check out the Charity shops
  • only one good record shop and thats sundown
  • Used to be bridge records but now some twat has taken it over with loads of bwad boy hardcore shite
  • Aint Shii Here Reprezentin REAL MUSIC I.E - HIP HOP!!!! Nah Mean!!!!!
  • MVC are rubbish and they rip u off, i think that the market is alright for CD's right at the top by the old square 3rd stall down is quite cheap for DVD's and videos the latest ones aswell
  • mvc...great if u want goods cheaper then n e where else~! MVC prices r cheapest!
  • Sundown records, cheaper than all the rest, dead small, just wicked overall!
  • Sundown Records !!!something about this place has changed in the last few yrs, can't put my finger on it but its still cheaper than virgin etc.
  • bridge records rockers only though
  • LMFAO ERMMMMMM SUNDOWN IS OK I GUESS
  • Bridge Records, on Bride Street... you want it, they've got it!
  • sundown, rules!!!
  • Sundown Records - fairly cheap and they get all the new singles in each week. Plus they have a variety of records. If you are a rocker then check out Bridge Records on Bridge Street which has plenty of stuff at dirt-cheap prices.
  • uhm well in walsall it could be sundown but they can be expensive but have some cool hoodies in!!!!
  • I DONT KNOW IF ITS STILL THERE BUT A WHILE AGO ON A WEDNESDAY THERE USED TO BE A MAN WHO HAD A STALL ON THE MARKET JUST OUTSIDE THE OLD SQUARE SHOOPING CENTRE WHO USED TO SELL THE CLASSIC LPS OF PEOPLE WHO NOBODY HAD HEARD OF BUT EVERY KNOW AND AGAIN YOU COULD FIND A BARGAIN FOR THAT SPECIAL OLD PERSON IN YOUR LIFE.
  • Theres always Bridge Street records, always too underground for me :(
  • Sundown aint bad
  • flipside records( very scary )
  • Bridge Records - not as good as it used to be, but still the best collection of rock vinyl in town
  • Sundown is the best place in walsall for the choons that u want! If u can hum it they'll find it !
  • Sundown records is good but expensive; Bridge records on Bridge St is probably the best for variety and price.
  • Virgin - because its the biggest rip off!
  • sundown- the best record shop in walsall check out imports
  • Bridge records...What a fantastic place. Very good for second hand bargains and collectors items. Situated in Bridge Street. Also Sundown records in Bradford street for bargains on New stuff.
  • Sundown Records - Helpful And Cheap
  • Bridge Street Records sell alot of Punk, Rock, Alt records. It's quite cheap too.
  • sundown records - smells kinda funny, but you can get a good bargain
  • Bridge records was good at on point and then they got broken into and then had a flood. Went down hill a bit after that.
  • Virgin store is good for the size of the place
  • Sundown Records is a top shop although always full and very small.
  • Bridge records - OK dance section downstairs and nuff oldies upstairs (say hello to Rich from Taz if you happen to stop by)
  • Bridge Records on Bridge Street for some Black country charm and more Megadeth than you could shake a stick at - my mate Rich works there now so if you go in be sure to say Hi from Taz, oh yeah - there's a dancey bit downstairs now - ROCK ON!
  • Don't go to Brige records, they only gave ne a five for a record that was worth £50, gits (I needed the beer money!)
  • Virgin Megastores or Bridge street Records for those obscure titles.
  • try bridge, its cheap, well-stocked and pretty cool. sundown just off the high street for posher types.
  • SUNDOWN RECORDS, BRADFORD STREET, THE BEST SHOP IN TOWN
  • sundown records really cool shop, virgin, woolworths etc, but sundown is the best
  • Sundown Records - if you can hum the chorus they can probably help you name the song!
  • Sundown records is a cool shop in Walsall, now there is virgin mega store, but sundown will get you what ever you want, freindly service

Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars

  • Bar NV is the new and coolest place to be seen in Walsall... Rachel Stevens was there last week... For Fuck sake! This premier champagne bar is the new don of this small town...
  • ws1, ARUBA
  • the green dragon has been taken over and done up.. with live music and rock disco on a friday, dance music on saturdays well worth a revisit when in walsall
  • drum and bass..and breakz ...sat 26th feb 2005 at quality hotel (formally the boundary) b'ham road walsall) dont miss it
  • HEY how long is it since u updated this page cuz walsall has got sum good clubs now for imnstance WS1 (fukin wiked) aruba heat revolution the steimbar is shit lmao wot was that geezer on about we all srufs or woteva he sed jus bcuz hes sum dirty geek whos gonna b a virgin all his life lmao
  • Studio 45 or 54???? Its like the bar scene out of star wars. Well, more like the set of Dr Who. And that was meant to be an improvement???
  • ws1 all the way babay
  • WS1!!!! ITS COWIN FANTASTIC!!
  • ws1-crap night out and not cheap!!
  • WS1 IS THE COOLEST NIGHTCLUB TO BE AND THE COLLUSUEUM, ALONG WITH YATES AND THE SPORTS BAR WHAT A PUB CRAWL
  • All pretty shit now New worl'd no longer their. WS1 is over-rated and pricey, Heat is wank, and sofa sofa is more oppressive than Stalin's communist dictatorship. Avoid all clubs in walsall if you like having testicles, guys!
  • ARUBA!!!! woo
  • WS1 is the best thing to happen to Walsall for ages much better than Settee, Settee!I just Can't see the point of queuing up for hours to get into "Revo".
  • WS1 is the best place at the moment.Thursday nights are a must! A pound a drink all nite and they're now open till 3AM kids!! Can't understand why people queue up all the down past Bar Sports to get in "Revo" though....... The Lost Lounge is a groovy little place. It's above the fruit and veg shop in the arcade - opposite Chipmasters in Lower Hall Lane. Sofa Sofa is full of scum - and it's too god damn small! Aruba is ok for a few pre-club drinks - just don't drink the draft beer it's crap!
  • Yeah,no one under 18 is allowed in the premises. But if you're a lady, and that eventually your flesh is noticeable, you may enter the pubs and share some interests with other people You guys, never forget your nice shoes; They don't care if you're wasted as long as you've got nice shoes...He man,it's Walsall...but everytime i enter a pub or a club in Walsall I feel like I am the one,I feel really important, like some part of an elite.
  • Harley's is such a shithole. Don't go there.
  • sports bar up bye the libery
  • Go to the Planet in Wolverhampton.
  • WS1 IS THE ONLY PLACE TO BE IN WALSALL NOW GASP HAS CLOSED!
  • Quite a few new places in Walsall now. Aruba is rammed on a weekend (used to be Milligans), Revolution Vodka Bar (used to be Baileys/GASP), and of course the meglomaniacs that own Heat (Harleys) have opened a new club opposite Revolution called WS1. Not too bad in there but it's mostly the same music and staff from Heat. Probably a better night in there now Scott has gone.....
  • pheasey youth projcet anybody who was anybody was a memeber untill they got banned
  • walsall is gr8..theres sofa sofa, yates, gasp, chicagos!!!THERE IS NO MORE DREAM!! where the hell is the new world??? cause i think that prob another 1 that closed down yrs ago.xx
  • i got 2 yates every week and enjoy myself every time there are 2 bouncers that are really nice jay and andy.dont go on a saturday as there's loads of old men unless you like that kind of thing!!!!!!!!!
  • dream was good for picking up certain purple hills but now its gone yates is ok if u know some of the people and sofa sofas good for a bit of a smoke
  • None that are any good...erm Sofa Sofa because it doesn't attract as many Coalpool slags and morons(because they only know one kind of music...>bwad boy)
  • Tha Shed, Shuanz Yard, Palfrey Park Sessionz Nah Mean!
  • sofa sofa is a great place to go on a weekend. loads of fit lads girlies as I have found my dream man there. The music is great and is a lashing after Yates's. Who are all you ppl dissing Harleys. It aint that bad but then again it aint no Ministry. See u around
  • HARLEYS AND SOFA ARE GREAT! START OFF IN THE VARSITY OR YATSES AND FALL INTO ONE OF THEM PISSED! GUARENTEED GOOD NITE!
  • Harleys - 'go wheeler go'
  • erm courthouse, yates, then gasp to finish the night off!!!!
  • HARLEYSSSS!!!!!!!!! urr... yep thats it lol
  • no clubs just pubs but they all have beers and remarkably young patrons
  • Harleys and Chicago Rock cafe. Avoid Samara its a dive, sorry guys.
  • Harleys night club in Bradford place. How many blury images of that place do I have!!!
  • At the momen, gotta be yatses (cheap drinks - have a kangaroo!!!!), court house on a wednesday (a cheap piss up), chicagos (dont pull then end up in the loos when ya pissed, cuz you'll end up gettin kicked out like moi)
  • Gasp probably the best, yates rules, have a kangaroo!
  • The best is 2toes out of a crap lot... Harley's is definitely the worst though they are trying an advertising ploy with free drinks some nights. But definitely do your drinking before 2toes as it is a rip-off once you get in.
  • harleys always stinks ov sweaty feet, there probably vinnys! girls should drink free all night and the sluts in the cages should dance properly there crap
  • well not golf clubs then thats a bit upsetting dream is always a good night out
  • NO DECENT CLUBS AT ALL IN WALSALL BUT MANY PUBS THAT STAY OPEN LATE WITH MANY OF THEM DOING £1 A PINT NIGHTS, COOL ESPECIALLY IF ONE OF THE WONDERFUL WALSALL WOMEN WHO ENJOY TH EODD PINT OR THREE, EVEN THE UNFORGETABLE DREAM IS CLOSED AT THE MOMENT WITH RUMOUR SAYING THAT IT WILL STAY CLOSED THE OMLY PLACE LEFT LATE AT NIGHT NOW BEING HARLEYS THE PLACE WHERE YOU HAVE TO BE DRUNK TO EVEN THINK ABOUT GOING THERE, HOWEVER DONT KNOCK IT TILL YOUVE TRIED IT ITS AN EXPERIENCE NOT TO BE MISSED. IVE HAD PLENTY OF GOOD NIGHTS THERE MANY UNMEMORABLE AND MANY MORE I WISH I COULDNT REMEMBER.
  • They are expanding by the week. Theres now Gasp, and a few new bars, like bar sports.
  • New World.....How I miss those nights of being totally off my rocker, and nobody giving a toss.......Let's all hound Fred down Bridge records to open shop again..and ban everyone from Beechdale and Coalpool so there'll be no scrapping!
  • FERRET BREADERS CLUB ON SAT.
  • Walsall is absolute shite, all the people there are scum. never venture out there at night time.
  • harleys- kev and shaz breeding ground...YUK
  • GASP, or Baileys as it's known to most people is not bad on a Friday and Saturday night.Better than Harley's anyway.Only prob is, not matter what DJ it is they ALWAYS play Westlife Uptown Slut.Which has got to be the most annoyingly cheesiest song to be released ever!
  • GASP nightclub next to baileys bar is by far the best place on a wednesday, friday, saturday and sunday. because i work there!!!!!!!!!!!
  • HARLEY'S SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • HARLEYS LMFAO ENUFF SAID!
  • Colleseum in Caldmore or Samras2 in Caldmore are ok if you're hard enough. Harleys is a meat market controlled by two power mad meglomaniac brothers and Dream is too hard to pull in. Nice music though.
  • Harleys seems to attract masses of QM Boys and Girls every weekend, and one particular Barr Beacon Girl (no names mentioned Henny) who has a weee bit of fun
  • Harleys is the closest Walsall has to a club! Everyone hates it yet everyone has still been there.
  • Harley's is the only one worth visiting but go to gods kitchen instead!
  • Non at all if you know the score. Harleys has it's moments but you really should avoid all Walsall nightclubs like the plague.
  • AAaaahhh-New world was the place to be-does anyone know if it is re-opening? Walsall does not seem to have anywhere decent (indecent) for us indie kids anymore. If you're an old slappa or you like old slappa's then Harley's is for you!!
  • Alantis - Wolverhampton
  • i can't believe these people are recommending Dream, Harleys and New World even though they are the only places in Walsall. Uglies was the best and god damn the council for taking it away from us!!!!!
  • Clubs?? nah, not really. Usual destinations post 11pm Fri / Sat : (1) Fight (2) Curry, followed by a fight (3) Hospital, after the fight.
  • Walsall isn't great for clubs, New World is scarey and life Threatening. Harleys is slightly dodgy although quite good and cheapish. Dream is the best but quite dear and out of town - Go to Wolvo
  • New World is OK for a beer and a smoke (wink wink nudge nudge) after the pubs have shut - though if we're honest about it it's more a corridor than a club
  • Go to Birmingham's Que club if you like your jungle / tecno etc.... loads of housey places there too but they're not worth mentioning. Oh yeah, Walsall does have the New World - at 300 capacity it's more a corridor than a club but it has the occaisional jungle or tecno - usually put on by my main man Ed Yates or some other local layabout. Also, remarkably lax attitude to smokers!
  • There are none unless you call Harleys, New World and Dream clubs. Zone and Ethos shut down about a couple of years ago.
  • Man, New World is the only one worth it, unless you like getting glassed, it is the ultimate den of iniquty.
  • Dream, walsall wood.
  • Go to Wolverhampton. Walsall is dead for clubs.
  • new world is pretty good. cheap beer, decxent music, indie kids. but like walsall, limited and a bit of a low-qaulity nite oot. harleys is ok if you are really pissed and fancy dancing to pop/dance with a load of stripey shirts from the beechdale. still can be fun.
  • Harleys - Opposite the bus station (frankly its awful)
  • DREAMS (FORMERLY HARPERS) WALSALL WOOD
  • the zone.... ethos both bently millway, walsall
  • New World is fun if you're into indie, it's nice and dingy and there are good band nights there
  • harleys night club there was a really cool club called new world order, the altimate rock scene but now closed.... wolverhampton is the best for the clubs
  • J10 M6 near cinema. The 'Zone' and 'Ethos'. One for under 25's and the other for 25+

Live Music Venues

  • the Littleton has now been shut down by our council to run a bypass through it, shame coz it was a great venue run by great people, lots of live bands of all types played there.
  • Birmingham Academy and Wolves Civic are my favourites. But there's usually some local gigs going on in Walsall itself.
  • Littleton Arms do jam nights on every 1st wednesday of each month!!!
  • The Astor Room at the Royal Hotel where Pete Miles hosts Realgigs once a month to give up and coming school age rock bands the chance to perform.Good atmosphere and new emerging talent.Worth a visit-4 bands for a fiver!!!
  • Watch out for the following bands and artistes @ Chicago Rock Cafe Walsall: Wednesday 26th January - Dire Straits Tribute 'Money For Nothing' Wednesday 2nd February - Anastasia Tribute Wednesday 9th February - The Jam Tribute 'The Jamm' Wednesday 16th February - U.S. Halfpipes, playing West Coast Pumk abd Skate Rock covering hits from Alien ant Farm, Wheatus, Blink 182, Offspring,Greenday and many more. Wednesday 23rd February - The Pretenders Tribute 'Pretend Pretenders' Keep Rocking
  • Er... 'scuse me if I'm boring all you with a mental age of nearly 10 and who are drunk enough to think that R 'n B, hiphop and garage qualify as music... but is there ANYWHERE in Walsall that caters for LIVE music that doesn't involve electricity? You know, like people do outside the area sometimes. I'm not that fussy about what type of music - I mean there must be somewhere that has folk, jazz, classical, country, trad., opera, ballet(?), baroque, piano, .... brass band even... isn't there?
  • May 2004 - Wheatsheaf (behind Blue Coat School) - Massive Rock disco every Friday night, live rock/indie bands many Saturdays. The landlord is a loud-shirt wearing loony who loves his smoke machines and disco lights, and his staff are fun too. Cheap booze offers on many nights: Mine's a pint of Stella!
  • Three men in the boat
  • The courthouse will hire their upstairs venue for free. You take the door they take the bar.(see jason) Organise your own gig. Check out the vaults up by the market
  • the wharf
  • ws1!!!!
  • There's only the wharf now, dead small and intimate so you feel like you're seeing something special. Chicago's used to have sad eightie's bands on but there haven't been any since Bad Manners
  • The Orangery is nice for the Music Venues, innit?
  • The Rising Sun allows some bands on but it gets too rammed. Have they ever heard of fire regulations? I always get short changed as well. I have observed a lot of other people holding their change out to get back that £1 after being shortchanged
  • no where, birmingham deals with good stuff, walsall deals with the scum
  • Walsall needs some seriour music venue for bands and HIPHOP but the warf bar by the art gallerys the most chilled out.
  • THEY ALL SUCK BIG STYLE. GO TO WOLVES OR BRUM. OR HOME.(BEST BET)
  • none exist they shud bring back the dance tent by the wharf
  • None except the Vaults which is shit anyway
  • The Rising Sun now hosts a jam night on Thursday evenings between 8.30 and 11.30. Everyone can either join in or just listen.
  • Passion and Pain - Still going after a thousand years. Still the same man with the same record collection but we love it just the same.
  • we need some more, the best place locally is in wolverhampton! and walsall has some wicked young musicians.shame they have nowhere to show off their talent, and the college does that popular music course thing, some of the people on that are ace!!
  • pleckfest but if lucys drowing are there then i reccomend you leave lucys drowning sucks ass especially rich, there remarkably untalented drummer BRiSQ rule!!!
  • Harley, Sports Bar, Baileys, Varsity, Old Court House, Millagans, Rising Sun.... Should I go on... I could, for a long long time, Walsall has loads of new clubs & bars.
  • You should definitely try the Stein Bar - music is good (to suit all), there is an outside bar when it gets too hot and there is hardly ever any trouble (unlike most places in Walsall.
  • Go for the Vaults and my favourite 'The Rising Sun' where you get the best alternative and rock sounds... Vaults is good for general live music though Rising Sun has good stuff on Friday nights...
  • chacargo rock cafe
  • The Vaults was the one and only really and that now seems to have stopped allowing local bands to play there, probably because of the small numbers of people who used to go there.
  • The Trough aka Rising Sun is good if you like smelly rockers, crap music, rotten cider and vomit on your shoes - Reg the landlord resembles Grizzly Adams from Gentle Ben.....
  • BEING PARTIALLY DEAF I ENJOY WHAT WALSALL HAS TO OFFER
  • The Vaults gives lots of younger artists a chance and has mucho top totty.
  • Hogs Head has some very OLD music once and a while if your desperate
  • The Vaults is the best for local talent!
  • The Rising Sun - Ablewell Street (Formerley The Watering Trough or 'The Troff' to us locals). Bands playing on Sunday afternoon's. Excellent on Friday night's too. Rocker's paradise!
  • The Vaults plays a good range of local bands and they have good drinks offers. Other than that the "other" clubs were never there or have gone. Not a particuarly healthy live music scene.
  • did anyone see a band called 'The Fridge magnets' at the vaultz a few weeks ago they were fantastic if you get the chance catch em if you can slightly older i grant you that but they give ya what you wanna hear!!
  • the flock is worth a giggle at the moment for the battle of the bands.
  • Flock & Firkin, formerly The Wheatshef, Birmingham Road. Battle of the Bands Thursday, Saturday & Sunday. Comedy last Friday of the month.
  • The Boundary hotel, the Vaults, Wolverhampton.
  • What about the Vaults, got to be the best place to go in town if you want to see a live band. A crackin night out, dark and atmospheric downstairs, but thats basically because it's a cellar.
  • how I lament the passing of the Wheatsheaf. Reckon there's only New World now
  • not really. a couple of places do folk/tribute bands.
  • none, they closed the watering trough and the starting gate, where alternative music was always played......

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Walsall. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Walsall.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
