Food
London Inn closed (fire)
The Red Mullet - holds the record for being closed more than open.
Yau's Chinese Takeaway
Red Mullet Fish & Chip Shop
Indian Resteraunt/Take Away
Tugela House Hotel - good food/resteraunt
Vicoria Inn - very good pub grub with BIG portions
chippy, chinese, Tugela Hotel as posh as it gets, foods not bad though. Green Ginger rocks the hardest though.
There is a marvellous bakery just opposite St. Andrews church which does a pretty good impersonation of a cornish pasty
The London Inn. The delicatessen.
Pubs
The Golden Lion Hotel is now private houses (check Ashburton's official website http://www.ashburton.org/churches.htm
London Inn closed (fire)
The Exeter Inn - haunted...
Victoria Inn - Good Grub
Bay Horse
Exeter Inn - good real ales/beer garden
Golden Lion - home of Monster raving Loonies
Red Lion - food
Roayal Oak - B&B, good ale, food
Silent Whistle - next to old railway station
The London Inn, Ashburton is no more as it burnt down in 1998
There are a number of good pubs ranging from the 'earthy' golden lion to the Fleece and Ferkin.
There are eight, or so, pubs! My preferred drinking house is the Exeter Inn, run by Jim McNicholl (an Exeter city Ex-player!) it serves the best kept beers in town, particularly the Ruddles! There are other established drinking houses, namely the London Inn, which serves its home-brewed ales (Thompsons Ales) and is good for eating at. Other well-frequented pubs in the town include The Red Lion, The Golden Lion, The Royal Oak, The Bay Horse, The Victoria Inn and The Lanterns, which has a good reputation for popular gigs.
Cafes and Coffee Shops
Green Ginger
Old Coffee Shop
Cafe Green Ginger (wicked cream cakes & outdoor garden)
Bishop's Tea Room (also pizzas Thurs. Fri. & Sat evenings)
Green Ginger cafe is folky, hippy, kind of square but the food is wicked. The rest are for old folks
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.
If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.
